Turbo Removal - 1JZ.

Postby Silent Knight » Sun Feb 25, 2007 5:30 pm

Right, I'm stuck here at the moment and hopefully someone will be able to hook me up with some 'How-To' knowledge.

I'm in the process of removing my turbos and I'm stuck on the rear turbo at the moment. I'm got one of the bolts off on the turbo side (leaving the manifold bolted on) and I'm stuck on the other.

I've sprayed CRC all over it and I can't get a socket in there as there's no room. I can fit a thin wall 3/8 socket on the nut but then I can't fit the powerbar or ratchet on the other side.

I also can't fit the ring side of the spanner on there as it's too thick. I can use the open end but bolt is going to strip as I can feel it slipping over the edges.

The one thing that I am going to try is to get a thin wall ratchet spanner (if they even exist) to see if I can fit one of those bad boys on there.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to go about removing this PITA little nut that's holding me back at the moment?

Any suggestions will be welcomed with open arms.

Nope, I'm not unbolting the manifold.
It's the last nut that holds the turbo to the manifold on the bottom. Just above the oil lines.

Malcolm me and Mike were talking about using those special tools actually, problem is I'd have to cut through the turbo or all the oil lines to actually get to the bolt with the grinder (that's if it will even fit in there).

I'll see if I can get hold of one of those flare nut spanners, they might just do the trick.

Darryn, what the hell are crowsfeet?

Wayne, I don't know what Toyota part numbers mean so you'll have to show me a picture or a better description of what exactly that tool is?

Dude, thanks for trying to help but I don't understand a word you are trying to say...

I've found that Sulco sells the crowfeet and spanners so will buy some hopefully this week and give it another crack this weekend.

Going to Repco today after work to pickup one of these:

The Mt Wellington store luckily has 2 left, at 20$ a piece. :|
Hopefully that'll do the trick.

I had a snap on ring spanner that fitted on the bolt nice then had to do the old bigger ring spanner through the open end and hop under the car to get enough room. worst mish Ive ever done on a car ever!
