Heat proof exhaust paint on Intercooler...

This topic has been partly discussed before, but not much info.

The paint is the VHT stuff you'd use on your exhaust manifold, heat proof to 1350degree's from memory.

Now does this paint keep the heat IN to a certain extent, or is it just "heat proof" in the way that it won't crack/peal off at high temps?

I want to put a light matte black coat onto my intercooler to hid it from prying eye's. Would this paint suit or would it lower its cooling effiency?

Any suggestion on what else could be used would be great. (I've already got a can of the VHT stuff left over anyway though).

i dont see why it would make it any worse for cooling as radators have it on them

but i am sure that that paint dousent effect the heat it just dousent chip & crack ect

I think that heat proof paint is just more resistant to higher temps, it doesnt have any 'thermal' properties so wont keep heat in. However black does dissipate heat better than say chrome

I think there was discussion that the paint could clog up the fins and affect the cooling ability. Apparently anodising intercoolers is the way to go

I would think it pretty hard to manage to block up the fins with spray paint if you were careful about it.
And IMO any insulating effects from a layer of paint would be pretty insignificant.

Anodising would be better...

Ask at a radiator shop, apparently there is a special paint they use specifically for radiators.

Geez Gav. All it does is not peel in the 600degree heat it has no other 'special' properties..... And you call yourself a James boy!!!???
