(Is it just turbo rotors that eat apex seals, or ported ones? Mine and dads have had the sh*t kicked out of them for years, and missed a beat, 10,000rpm+ launches, etc)

Detonation and pre-ignition is what kills engines, detonation breaks the apex seals, pre-ignition cracks end plates. Poor tuning/ Poor modification list is what kills engines

there are cars in the US running low 9's all day long on mazda remanufactured crate engines, provided they are tuned right, a STD 13B turbo engine is good for around 650HP or so.

Here is a great 2JZGE package! Everything you need (as long as you are happy with auto box)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

At a guess I'd say use a mazda gearbox... from an rx7 or something similar. Try one of the rotary forums, they seem to put rotary's into anything with wheels.

Nope, you can drop rotaries into most rwd Toyotas without having to modify the trans tunnel, I used to know of a kit for this, but it mounted it quite far forward in the engine bay, some people didn't like this for weight distribution.. you'll notice most non-mazda rotary racecars have the engine sitting wellll back, almost behind the firewall in a couple of cars I've seen!

So.. yes you can, but it won't handle very nicely. Which in a ute I suppose doesn't matter too much, theres' only one reason I'd be putting a rotary in a ute, and it isn't for going fast!

I'm the guy KINLOUD talked about with the 5m-ge conversion, the hardest part of the conversion is finding the bell housing! once this is sorted it runs a standard 5m-ge clutch, straight onto the factory Hilux gearbox, the engine mounts need to cusomised, I cut the old ones off the chassis and moved them forward then welded them back on strengthing plates, but I mounted it slightly too high and had to cut the braces out of the bonnet, the sump needs customising to clear the steering rod but I just panelbeated it to save any welding.

Easiest conversion I've done so far, heaps easier than a lexus v8 in a Hilux!

And with a full twin exhaust it sounds horny! In the words of KINLOUD "It sounds like a v8 should at idle and then as it revs like a really hot skyline!"

Could do, the driveshaft would have to be modified and a new mount made up, or get a factory hilux 5 speed floorshift, no driveshaft mods and the "w" series bellhousings bolt up to the alloy lux boxes, but they dont have the ratio's of the 58! but on another thought the internals could swap over! or even the rear housing might swap over

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Hybrids!

Hmm, be interesting to hear what it sounds like compared to my 2JZGE 130 surf. I have the std twin manifolds then around 4 feet of 2 inch pipe as 'secondaries' before collecting into a single 3 inch pipe. Someone on another forum described it as "sounds insane going around the track". I might see if i can get some footage of it and get it onto the net.

DVSMOTORSPORT, What have you done with your zaust??

the 5M swap is easy and there are several bellhousings floating round at the moment. Here to hear it

They are best tied to a rope and used to anchor ones launch.

Is there anything out there which HASN'T had one of those motors fitted to it?

To Mat4u. My exhaust is full twin, with custom headers, cylinders 1, 2, & 3 in to one two inch system and 4, 5, & 6 into the other, with two mufflers either side of the drive shaft with three inch dump pipes (no balance pipes) just before the diff. Its basically a one of becuase its on LPG which allowed me to put a muffler where the petrol tank used to be. It could still be done but it would make the exhaust lower and probably heat you fuel up too.
