car sits around 1800rpm half the time and wont drop lower than 1200-1300rpm, which is driving me nuts. are there any common things on these engines that can cause this problem? ive had a search of the tech forum and cant see the info i need so if i missed it, sorry in advance:) cheers

id start with a by pass leak so air con by pass valve or idle up solinid / ISC valve

heres a few questions/things to try first

-douse it idle high when cold
-if you turn the air con on & off do the revs drop alot or start to go down then pull back up
-if you give it a quick flick on the revs do they go down but then creap back up
-is you throttle cable slack at the TPS when idleing
-is the TPS set up correctly (do the other ones first )

yeah idles at around 1800rpm when cold
hasnt got air con anymore.
yep, does the crepping thing and when i pump brakes the revs go uo then down again.
cable is taught
dont know about tps yet

by pass is a little valve that pass air past the throttle when the ECU tells it to to give an increase in revs because the motor is under load so when its cold it will increase the revs to help keep it running like wise when its idleing & you turn the air con on or use the power sterring the motor needs to rev more to stop it stalling dew to its under load

was the air con idle up removed when the air con was?
when you say the throttle cable is tight how tight is it?
an injected motor should have a we bit of slack on the cable if your foot is off the accleator so that the TPS can sit hard back by the spring so the ECU knows its idleing & not being reved
