Postby strx7 » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:47 am

What is the difference between a 1JZGTE piston and a 2JZGTE piston?

how much HP has been achieved on std 1JZGTE pistons?

John you should be able to answer this since you have a JZ block with a combination of both pistons in it?

I know what the difference is as I actually looked at them when they were in the block but I can't for the life of me remember now... :|

I am primarily concerned about pin size and height, if that is the same they will be suitable for what i'm wanting to do.

From memory the piston sits higher in the 1J than in the 2J. IIRC John had to machine the top of the piston down to make it fit into a 2J block.

1JZ and 2JZ pin height is different. Without modifying the piston you cant use 1JZ in a 2JZ block. I think you'll find john now uses aftermarket 2JZ pistons in his 1.5JZ instead of the machined 1JZ ones.

Yip I'm aware of that.
I'm referring to an old block that he had that he sold on to John Rosser in Hamilton that had 1x 1JZ piston and 5x 2JZ pistons in it.

I have 5 good ones and 1 cracked piston.

They are still in the block however. I've disassembled everything so far except for the block. I'm struggling to find bolts long enough to mount the bastard on my engine stand... :?

other way around, 5 machined 1jz pistons and 1 2j. the 1j's sit higher than the deck.

johns now got a bored? block with custom pistons and running 3.2l displacement. think was an ex down south block.

Yep he's running 3.2 or 3.3l or something like that at the moment.

He's using the JZ out of Dunn's old Levin in Timaru.
