ke70 dash lights coming on with brake pedal??

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sat Mar 10, 2007 8:35 pm

got a wee problem with the ke70 - all the lights work sweet as normal, apart from the fact all the dash lights will come on when i push the brake pedal.
My guess is a couple of wires are melted together, or someone has joined the wrong two wires.

Where's the best place to start checking?? anyone who knows a bit about the ke70 wiring have any pointers, maybe save me a bit of time and frustration?!

its a 1984 ke70 wagon if it matters. i know its a long shot but worth a try

thanks.

ah you legend  took the back left brake bulb out and it works sweet.
why would that be missing an earth? is it the white/black wire which should be the earth? any idea where the other end of that wire is?

Make sure the bulb has two contacts on the bottom the same as the rest,
sometimes people it a single contact bulb which joins the two together,

or sometimes it is just a faulty bulb.

It's a common problem we see at work with all cars.

thats it - checked the wire and it was earthed but the bult is a single contact. swapped it with the twin contact bulb from the drivers side and its sweet.
interesting something so simple can cause such major problems - I was thinking something alot worse :?
can this sort of thing cause indicators to flash quickly too? all 4 are doing it, but not the hazards. unless its just a coincedence that all 4 are going to blow soon :D

weird thing is now its only the right side flashing fast - they've all been doing it for ages now it all of a sudden changed.
thought it may be to do with the brake lights so I put all the bulbs back in exactly how they were before hand and the left one was still normal speed.

the only way I can get the passenger side to flash fast again is by removing the indicator bulb.
ive tried swapping the bulbs around (passengers/drivers side) but it doesnt change anything.

this sound more like earths or bulbs? or still a faulty flasher?

bulbs are the correct wattages and are the same as each other too.
where would be a good place to start looking for a dodgy earth, just follow the wire back from the indicator? or something in the fusebox/dash area?

if it was a faulty bulb, would unplugging / removing that bulb fix it?

go round each earht with a muilty meter & go from each bulb to chassie something good & clean like a boot catch ect set the muilty meter to volts & check V.D

also if it was a faulty bulb take each one out & swap with a good one from the other side & see what happens

um if you put your muilty meter on 1-20v dc & put 1 lead on the earth point of the bulb holder & the other on a good chassie earth & see what they read it sholud be between .001-.5V the less the better
