Auto's have rev counters as most of the little shit boxe's are so quiet that you can sometimes be in 2 or have the OD off and not even know unless you look at the RPM's.

I run an shift light in my car but concentrating on a shift light is a waste of time and if you are used to the car you should be able to tell.
I run my light as an over rev light and it's set 1/2 way between where I normally shift and the limiter.

However, I wish I had set the shift lights up and driven to them in the focus as then I wouldn't have been shifting 1000rpm early as I was not use to the noises of the car,

I could have used a shift light when I went to the drags!

My tacho wasnt working at the time, and I couldnt hear my engine through my helmet. I either short shifted or over revved the whole time basically.

Who looks down at their tacho anyway? unless you're nanna driving.
My peak power is like 400rpm away from rev limit, so a shift light would really help me keep the engine on the boil, without wasting time bouncing on the limiter. I'd set it to probably 1000rpm before I wanted to shift gear, so by the time my slow reactions notice, I'll change at about the right time.

$&#$% shift lights. who wants the distraction of a $&#$% torch shining in your face when concentrating? get used to the car.

especially on street cars. how blinding it must be driving at night.

better tell all those V8 super car drivers to just stop it then... I mean if they all need them just for wank factor, then they need to replace them with real drivers.

my guess is that they make a generic dash and then decide if its going to be M/T or A/T

Nope, as on a lot of models the auto hav a rev counter and the manual does not,
and the auto's are built with the PNDR21 lights where quite often there is no provision for the in some of the manual models.

Lol, Quite often the big cheap arse monster tacho's are even more out then that at high rpm. Have actually seen a cheap no name brand one at work that was almost 1500rpm high at 7000.

oooo man all these shift light haters  you make me lol

Mums new manual 1nzfe rolla has no tach, still easy to drive

Also the auto dashes are different as they often display which 'gear' you are in somewhere in the display.

meh autos are only good for daily drivers and drag machines, lock up torque converter and some other tricks I forgot, makes the fluid move faster in the box, dad used to do it on his v8s.

I have found shiftlights to be real handy.

Have had gizzmo dual stage lights in both of my cars, means i can change gears at pretty much the same RPM every time without over reving the engine for no reason.
Changing at max rpm doesnt mean your car will go faster.

And also after sitting at high rpm around a track for ages it all sounds simmilar through a helmet, shiftlights do help.

Not all of use have wanky exhausts so we can hear the engine loud and clear. My evo was reasonably quiet at high rpm and it wasn't exactly slow. After a launch in first gear you would be at 7,000rpm in no time.
