Where to source Aluminium piping, bends etc?

Postby RomanV » Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:51 am

Hi folks.

I have this great looking HKS welded Aluminium pipe that I got with my new engine. I would love to use it, but unfortunately it is the wrong diameter for the MAF sensor to work properly. :?

So I want to build something similar, with a slightly smaller diameter.

I cant weld, so I would need someone else to do this for me.

However, I am not completely useless.
I want to draw up some plans that I can give to the fabricator, outlining exactly what I want.

But I want to know... What size bends, lengths etc. of pipe are available in stock?
If you know what I mean.

Eg. I need a 65mm (or so) inside diameter for the pipe. I will need 1 or 2 90 degree bends or 45 degree bends, and a few sections of straight pipe.

As well a as a flange plate on the end, to attach the pod filter.
Basically I want to know what size bends etc. are available, so I can accurately draw my plans. And perhaps buy the bends, once I have decided on how to proceed.

I want to draw some shop drawings, from which someone could fabricate this intake.

Does anyone here who works as a fabricator or similar have any idea how I could get some info? Or where I could source pipe bends etc?

Thanks.

repco henderson has a 2" or maybe 2.5" aluminium donut at the moment.
They dont normally order them in, so its abit of a one off.
(it comes as 2 halfs) and you have to get it welded together)
for some reason they come like that, i did know why but i forgot.

doughnuts come in two halfs because it's impossible to remove the mandrel from the pipe if it's fully sealed, unless the doughnuts are cast with some sort of degradable core (and they're not)

call Tube Bending Ltd on 09 274 4906
They're at 50 Cryers Rd in East Tamaki
they do mandrel bending of pretty much all materials, and should be able to help you out, maybe even fax/email you some dimensional drawings/specs

They also have a scrap bit full of stainless steel 90 degree bends of a variety of sizes that you can buy cheap cheap (like 10-25 a bend depending on size).

if you send them thru good pics, you'll get exactly what you need.

No one in NZ has more tube bending technology than these guys.
