Realisticly if it was ever made it'd be stupidly priced and the kind of people it appeals to won't be able to afford it anyway. Still, one can only hope.

Unfortunatly there is more of a market for cars that weight 1500kgs+, have 10 airbags, 21 cup holders and electric seats...

It won't sell IMO.

Only a bunch of die hard fans will buy it, and if they ever to remake it, it'll have to comply with 2007+ standards, ie: airbags, ABS, traction control, more strcuture regidity. That'll make it weight heaps, which throws the whole AE86 idea out anyway.

Buy a Nissan imo. <3

I reckon it's a good idea. Not to recreate the AE86 for today's fans though.

If they took the time and money to create a new car in the same spirit as the AE86(/5!) it would sell for the same reasons that the MX-5 does and be vastly popular throughout it's lifespan in the same way the AE86 is.

If they simply started rolling AE86s with airbags off the production line it would be an utter waste of time.

Senior factions with Toyota have been keen to bring the car back, but the sales and marketing teams have so far torpedoed it because they can’t believe it would sell.

"And then the senior factions said 'We have heaps of $&#$% money. We'll make it anyway', and the marketing teams commited seppuku"

It doesn't say that they're not going to make them, it says that the senior businessmen who run Toyota want to see it remade, whereas the nancy marketing guys are saying no.

I'm willing to bet $10 to anyone that we'll see a "remade" AE86-type n/a FR car to come out of Toyota by 2010..

Well, if you follow the pattern of the MR2's, you could say that the Altezza was the next AE86.... You know, 4AGE -> 3SGE....

With the way new cars are looking, im guessing a modern day AE86 would look horrible.
