Steering Problem

Postby Tozza » Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:50 pm

Hey Guys, Im hoping someone may be able to help me with this.

If im driving along and my wheels with a slight ditch or bump in the road, my steering jolts to the side. It also happens just randomly. Ive had a Wheel alignment and balance done but it still seems to be doing it.

Could be power steering...............

I really dont know. Can anyone help???

sounds to me its a combo of the springs and wheels causing bump steer

Okay, Would it be a matter of replacing or adjusting to fix the problem?

theres also the possibility of incorrect offset wheels.
check that.
if its the springs (they will be contirbuting if not the sole cause) not a lot you can do excpet put some sensible springs in it.

whats throwing it out is when its lowering the car the point where the rack joins the hub is altered in relation to where the rack is mounted to the body
so as the suspension moves, the steering arm moves in an arc, this causes the hub to move when you hit a bump, causing the car to want to change direction

forgot to mention
if you can look uner the car while its flat on the ground, have a look at the steering arms
they should be level, if they are sloping up then thats what iv described above

Its factory springs, so if they are worn out (which is entirely possible) it will do the same thing?

I will do a search about offsets

off set should be on the wheel itself
