upgrading my brakes

Postby deaf_rattle » Tue Mar 27, 2007 10:44 am

Ok, we are building the car up for a max power of 500hp but will probably run closer to 400hp for everyday driving.

The car will see occassional drag duties and maybe a track day. But at the end of the day its just for cruising/spirited driving.

we i be ok if i just replace all for discs with new ones (possibly slotted on the front) upgraded pads(mintex compund), upgraded fluid, rebuilt calipers and braided lines up front

will this be alright for what im doing? or should i look at bigger discs and bigger calipers?

thanks

ive got some 280mm discs and calipers to suit off my soarer, if they fit you can have them

although i think i've just realised yours is 4 stud isn't it, in which case they wont fit (but if you can find 280mm rotors to suit your car and the calipers fit you can have them)

The Celica ST205 is similar weight, runs 315mm disks with 4 pot front and 315mm 2 pot rears. And they arent sufficient for road racing.

But he'd need 16's to clear them.

with 15's 275-280mm discs and thin 4 pots ala RX7 will be the biggest you can go to, get some good grippy pads and just run with std type non slotted rotors, which are CHEAPER to replace.

skyline R32 front callpers bolt stright up with any were from 0-7mm spaces behind them depending on what disks you run BA falcon rotors & skyline R32 are the 2 people most comleney use R32 is a 7mm spacer & BA is sed to be no spacer or .5mm but people have used lots of other ones as well you need to make a ring out of steel with 60mm ID & 67mm OD to center them

skyline R33 rears bolt up with a adaptor plate

you will have to get all disks mesioned re drilled to 4 on 4-1/2" not 5 on 4-1/2"

if you do just front upgrade you will need an adjustbal bias valve if you do front & rear you need the bias valve out of an R23

this gives you 4 pots solid in the front & 2 pot solid in the rear

iv got 4 or 5 pages of pics & spec sheets on this so when your next on MSN il link/send them to you

r32 skyline 4 pots have lots of wasted casting, comparitive wise, GTS-T's run a 275-280mm disc and require a 16 inch rim for clearance while most other 4 pots running 275-280mm discs can fit under a 15 inch rim. If you want to cram the larged possible rotor along with a 4 pot caliper under any sized rim, rx7 calipers have the least amount of wasted space.

il check the MA61 one 2mro as thats identical to the R32 if you get a chance can you measure the height from midle of the 2 mountings if you put a line thro them to the top of the pads
