Is it just me, or.......

Postby ke2nv » Thu Mar 29, 2007 12:08 am

Is it just me, or are most of you a bit sick of people buying old KEs, and cuttin the springs, putin in a monsta tacho, putting a big shiny dumpy on them, and then caning the crap out of them and just generally wrecking a great classic car!?!?!?!? Ive got a mate who bought a mint KE30 off a nice old man (garaged all its life, full service record, 'jesus loves you' sticker on the back bumper) and trashed it by rally driving it most days in some pine trees. its still in there, minus windows, motor, most panels and interior. Hes a bit gutted now seeing how much KE30s can be worth when theyre done right.

Yep, I definately am as you might have gathered. They're cool old cars really, its a pity that so many have been ruined in that way.

It seems its not just KE's either

It always seems to be the idiots who find the mint car the old man/lady has had garaged for the last 30 years and then proceed to thrash it to death in about 3 months.

it make ya sick I tell ya

what is wrong with putting a 12a or a 13b into one? do you disagree with putting a 4age into it? they both are being repowered by a more powerful engine. i know you have an rx7 so i find it weird that you said that. i think you're more against the people that come with the pulsing ke's

scope: Are you high? We're talking about the K series engine here.... Rotas, 4AGE's they just don't stand a chance against a K series engine!

Personally I dont think it should be limited to just the KE's......but when it comes to modifying a car...any car for that matter......to a certain extent I think you have to keep within the period of that car....retain the lines it had from factory (with in reason of course)

a classic example of what I am talking about is a drop kick I used to work with.....took a MK1 Capri 2ltr & did his own back yard body kit job on it....made the thing look like a brick....a car like that has classic lines that need to be retained.

I am all for modification.....hell I own a KE myself, I didnt do the work, but the only original parts on that are the body and some of the interior....but when you look at her the only change you see first off are the wheels & hence it retains the factors that have made KE's what they are today & thats what they rolled out of the Thames factory with.

Thats hit the nail on the head. I dont have a problem with puttin a rotor in a KE, id love to do it myself but i know id never be able to afford it  MasCam said wat i trying to say, the old lady/old man cars always seem to get bought by the idiots who trash them. Not me though :D

I sold a good condition AE85 Notchback to a nice young guy here in Hamilton.

I told him "theres not many AE85/86's and they are getting fewer and harder to find. Please don't be an idiot and stick it into a bank or a tree. I you do crash it I will come around and kick your arse then take the car back with no $ your way!"
I don't know if my "fear of god" speech made any difference but the car still looked ok 12 months later! :)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Not a big fan of bolt on flares, they look f##ken tacky in my opinon. You got to keep the body as original as possible. The worst thing anyone can do tho is taking off the chrome bumbers, it makes me cringe when I see that. Even when done to ke70s and starlets.
