what colour to paint my block

Postby deaf_rattle » Thu Apr 05, 2007 8:57 am

The crank is going under the knife very soon and the bottom end will be balanced soon after.

What colour should i paint the block? I thought black but leaks and stuff wont show up very well.

Also, with painting the block whats the best way to keep the block surface free from overspray.

cheers

btw, the car is red and the cam covers are red, will be lots of shinny stuff and black brackets etc.

I'd rather have a ghey looking block that I knew didnt leak anywhere, than a l33t looking one that shit itself because you didnt know it was pissing oil out.

Black. Drips of oil on the driveway are a good way to check for leaks.

But it's a pain to diagnose where exactly the leak originated from if you are just looking at a little dot of oil on the ground. That could have run along one of the pipes/grooves/whatever and then dripped down....

Especially when you have plastic trays under the engine :(

Go for the silver, has the benefits of a White block but doesn't look so ghetto

wheres the option for chrome?

silver would look nice, but i'd probably go black then just keep an eye for leaks. wouldn't be expecting too many from a rebuilt engine anyway

I dont see the point in painting the block a certin colour just so you can see oil easily as a light showes up oil and if its a new engine it shouldnt leak for some time. White would be diffrent tho!

You can get alimumium silver from VHT, it looks good I recken.

Actually saw a turbo laser with a totally matt black engine, looked quite cool.
The guy just used some VHT paint and sprayed the whole thing, oil will show up shiny so the leak spotting wouldn't be a problem.

Looks really different.
