HELP!! How do I fit Recaro seats into a Caldina... ???

Postby ADIKTD » Wed Apr 04, 2007 5:14 pm

Hi,

Well, where to start...
I Have tried everything!

So I get a set of Nice Recaro Fishnet seats took me ages... but eventually I found some!

These come with Rails to fit to an MU and I want them to fit Caldina,
So I take them to a guy who will do it and he measures up everything and tells me it wont cost anymore than $100 sweet as... I leave my car there for a day and when I go back he says sorry bla bla didnt have enough timewill need to keep the seats here and do it.. so I leave the seats there and call the next day, sorry not enough time, next day ok for pickup... confirm price no more than $100. After work rolls around and I go see the guy with my seats and expect to be able to put them in my car - 3 out of the 4 mounts are done and he will need my car for another day to finish the job, oh and the final price for an unfinished job was $166.00

So I fit the 3 mounts just to see if they fit and if it will look nice etc and notice I have nowhere for my seatbelt to clip into as the factory mounts/seats encorporate these into themselves.

Seatbelt guy says cant do anything. try toyota for a seatbelt post with a longer stem so I can bolt it into the floor. Toyota says no idea what to get as clips are different and if I buy them and they dont work - Too bad no refunds.

So I take my car back to the guy who modified the original rails and he says yeah should be easy to do using the factory ones do this, this and this, so to avoid paying more I attempt to do it myself, I remove the cover off the side and see that there really is no way it will happen without drastic modification to the factory rail and I do want to keep them so I can use them later if need be.

Im lost and really frustrated... anyhelp would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading - Sorry about the novel!

doesnt sound very professional.

i know ae101's have the same thing where the seatbelt is part of the seat. if you want to fit aftermarket seats, your best best is to buy some sr3 style recaro seats from an integtra type R or evo type thing, as they usually have the clip as part of the seat and have mounting for it. then you just need some rails to suit.

i think there is a way around floor mounting the clip but i dont know enough about it to comment fairly.

Thanks for that!
Not too keen on getting new Recaros, Ive loved Fishnets since they were used on "PNKBTZ" so theres no trading them in! I have located a possible place for the belt clip to buckle in its where the quick release clips in at the bottom... this is handy - Just wondering ifanyone else has used it? and is it safe enough?

Cheers

Hmmm... well no not really... I've had people telling me yes Cert is required and people telling me cert isnt required... The guy that does my WOF reckons cert isn't required in this case - I'm happy if he's happy!

you are modifying the seat and its mountings and seatbelt mounts.
cert will be needed.

cert isnt needed when its a straight bolt in with no modding.

Pictures would help.....but I don't like your chances of mounting a seatbelt to anything that isn't a seatbelt mount
