No brake lights??

Postby Quint » Mon Apr 09, 2007 7:03 pm

car failed its WOF on several things and i'm slowly working through them, but i'm stumped by one problem: no brake lights.
By no brake lights, i mean foot on the brake, no light, bulbs are fine, wiring is fine (when you turn on the lights the running lights work) Fuse is fine, thought it was the switch (on the pedal itself), took it out, checked it and its also fine.

I'm pretty much out of ideas (and electronics arn't my strong suit :/)

Its probably something simple but i can't for the life of me figure it out and i'm getting sick of driving the te71.

So any ideas are welcome :D

Have you got power to the bulbs? Has the other side got an earth?

If the bulb isn't stuffed, there is power and earrth then there no reason for it not to be gong. Might pay to check the quality of the earth, or of the powe source for that matter.

Find a bulb you know to be good and give it a good earth while using the power supply to the bulbs and make sure the bulb goes. Likewise with a feed straight from the battery and using the bulbs earth to make sure its alright.

have you got a light on your dash that tells you when the bulbs are gone ? if so it could be that, its a little black box usually located behind the drivers side rear in the boot behind the plastic, unplug and remove will probably be burnt out

use a test light not a multimeter,

and see if there is power at the brake light switch first.

Maybe he didn't check with a test light to see if theres a broken wire attached to said switch tho, this could be the problem
