Skyline related question

Postby solitaire » Thu Apr 12, 2007 1:33 pm

Right dont flame me or anything.

Im trying to find out what the offset is of Nissan skyline R32 GTR wheels which are on my mr2.

They are 205 16's on the front and 225 16's on the back.

The reason i need this info is because i am getting new tyres tomorrow and i would like to know if my offset is up the creek before tomorrow. I have done a lot of internet reasearch and have found nothing and unfortunately by the time i get home tonight it will be dark.

Any help is apreciated but as its a toyota forum i dont expect to get replies, i know there arnt too many skyline owners on here

Cheers Guys

Hmm I just searched for Nissan Skyline "wheel offset" and got http://meggala.com/wheelsoffsets.htm

FWIW I have skyline wheels on one of my SW20's and, while they're not exactly the same as the stock ones, I've have never had an offset related problem like tram-lining or excessive bump steer.

Only problem I had was the the Goodyear F1's don't come in a low enough profile, so they degraded the handling somewhat, guess it's back to Yokohamas next time ;)

Oh right, Im due to get some F1's tomorrow... What sort of profile should i be looking for? currently there are 205 50 r16's & 225 50 r16's front/rear respectively

I fine that they're a bit tall for 16" rims, I prefer 45 profile as that matches the stock tyre circumference and reduces sidewall flex, well for the 92+ ones anyway, can't remember if it's the same for the earlier ones.

Why on earth they don't make the 225 Goodyears in a 45 profile for 16" rims I don't know :(

The earlier ones ran 195 60 r14's i believe.

[Edit: what i typed made no sense]

When getting wider tyres with different offsets the main idea is to make sure there is an even increase in width on both sides of the hub correct?

according to all that has been said in past posts i searched:

A 1990 MR2 Turbo had 14x6+45 front and 14x7+45 rear

The current skyline wheels are 16x7+33 front and 16x8+38 rear

according to: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp I have 1mm less inner and 25mm more outer on the front and 6mm less inner and 20mm more outer on the back.

That sounds like a complete mess to me... any opinions? im getting more and more confused but that does not sound like it would handle nicely... Im getting major bump steer at the moment.

basically you've got a bit more track, which is possibly beneficial for handling, if what i've read is correct.
