Isn't It sad...

Postby strap-on » Sat Apr 14, 2007 9:55 am

I was reading Phil Bradshaws page about his lotus 7 replica, he says that in the time he has owned it it has been pissed in, had eggs thrown into it among a whole lot of other things that I cant really remember.

It just got me thinking, Security issues are enough to put you off owning a car like that. And then I started thinking, It sux just how much effort we have to put in to ensure that people don't steal or vandalize our stuff.
I mean a decent alarm is IVO 600- 1000 bucks? While its money well spent to ensure scum have a bit harder of a time getting your car, I could think of a lot of better ways I would rather spend that money. With the increase in car theft is it soon going to happen that its just standard that cars are heavy and built like tanks, just because someone wants to take what isn't theirs?

I know that complaining on an internet forum is not really going to do much to change society, but having a rant makes me feel a little better.

BTW has anyone thats had their stuff nicked and the cops have found the assbandit that did it, what did said assbandit receive in way of punishment?

Yeah I know how you feel, my cars been hit a few times on the side of the road and nobody has left a note or anything... just driven off and left me with the damage.

But my mate has it twice as bad... after spending $2000 getting his baby (R33 Skyline) back on the road some idiot decided he would nick it only a couple of days later!

They found it out West after they had been chasing it for a couple of hours... now its going to cost $3000 to get her back on the road... and how much is the f*ckwit paying? $0...

I've had cars broken into on 5 or 6 occasions over the years. Every time reported to cops. Been given a case number but nothing has ever come of anything. Haven't heard a word.

^^ don't forget hes got the power to "mark" people .

on topic: its the way the government has been using the police, to say they rather have more speeding tickets issued, rather then dealing with more serious crimes, my mate got his house broken into last week and cops showed up 3 days later to "write a report" thats all they could do because by the time they got there all the finger prints where gone, had 10k worth of stuff taken, crime is on the rise all over the show,

(spoken in Russian voice)
when shall we start the up rising and over throw the government comrades...

A guy who was drunk and apparantly high on P as well crashed into my old car which was a legacy when it was parked outside my girlfriends house one night.

The police said they would be charging him and asked me to get quotes from panel beaters to see how much it would cost.

One quote came to $2200 and the other was $2500 so they ordered him to pay me $2400 at $80 a week.

Surprisingly he actually started paying me and has to date paid me $2110. I haven't had a cheque for a while though and I think that might be all the money I'll see.

The best bit is yet to come.

I bougt the panels needed to fix my car off TradeMe they cost me $250
I did all the work myself so the labour cost me $0
I got it painted for $600.

To date I have made $1260 out off a drunk crashing into my car.

Me too.
It aint worth the risk.

A mate of mine had a 300ZX which was his pride and joy...

He drove it once a week, or therabouts - and refused to leave it parked anywhere but in his garage.

I dont see the point in having a "Hangar Queen" for a car...

yea and thats my point, i wish it didn't have to be like that. I know that crime can never be eradicated fully, But cant tougher sentences be imposed?

I know that we have a graduated justice system where say stealing someones shit is not as bad as getting drunk and killing someone. But look at the criminal intent. Someone is Purposefully making a conscious decision to go out of their way to break into someones car and take something that isn't theirs. This in my books is one of the worst crimes and should be dealt with in the harshest of manners. And yet it seems that these buttocks bandit's are getting little to no punishment, I don't blame the cops they do all the can to catch them. But why are the courts letting them go?

It's more repeat offenders that get me.

My mate had his PoS Mazda stolen. Now my mate hated that car and was always saying it'd be great to see it gone. But when it happened he was visibly upset by it.

The guy drove the car from Hamilton to Auckland, after removing the front springs and driving on bump stops (road hazard), blew the head-gasket, stripped the car for stereo parts etc.

Leaves his wallet - with Driver's licence, "key" (screw driver) and pair of jeans in the boot. They catch the guy, he pays nothing to my mate, and get's 6 months community service cos he was 17. It was his 5th time being caught.

He obviously isn't going to learn his lesson. Lock him up for 5 years or so then see what happens. Happens again? Fix (bash his bollocks between an anvil and a ball pein hammer) him.

I have two cars. One I don't care about, and drive every day, park anywhere, leave unlocked quite often etc. It's a heap, so it isn't going to upset me as much when careless people smash their doors into the car in car parks, and nobody will hopefully want to steal it.

Then I have a car that's fun to drive, and gets driven when I am going for a drive just for something fun to do, and know that I'm not going to need to park and leave the car anywhere dodgy, or in a shopping mall or supermarket car park.

Yes, it sucks that I know if I drive a nice car daily, it will get ruined by idiots or thieves.

Okay. This comment struck me as a bit.... Off...

Your TV gets stolen... you lose a TV. It sucks.
Some fool speeding along t-bones your drivers door at 80kph, potentially you die, if you're lucky you spend 6 months recovering in hospital.

Theft of property really does bite the big one. But it's not (normally) potentially fatal. The scale of what is "an important crime" is pretty objective. Really, no one criminal act is any less important/serious than another.

I aggree with darkwolf here. Car thieves know that the punishments for there actions are going to be very minimal so they take the risk. If the government toughens up majorly I doubt criminals would be taking those risks as much. However I guess you would still get the dumb asses. How about 5 + years prision for stealing a car. None of this community service BS for 6 months...

Yeah someone tried breaking into my car (the ke)

It has solex locks, an alarm and NO STEREO.

Nothing on the inside at all, no clothes nothing. No speakers, no stereo.

They tried ripping the solex locks out of the door, as a result the paint is $&#$% around the lock. Got quotes for a full respray of the door ranging from $600 - $1000 for a decent amount of layers of blue with perl and a heap of clear layers.

I left my car on mt eden road, close to the symonds street end. Quite a nice area and i thought it would be safe. Parked up at 10am and returned at 12 and in that time some c**t tried breaking in.
Its not a quiet road either. Its a main arterial road with quite high traffic volume at all times. And a moderatly high pedestrian volume

They just don't care if they get seen.

why would you,

you could make a bit of cash if you get the car or parts,

and hell if you were caught youd be fined and given community service, but then you cant pay the fine so you get more community service, so you sit around on your ass doing"community service" scoping out more cars to rip off.

Touching on my post above... my mate was never able to get in contact with the officer that was dealing with his case... so don't know about any jail time (highly doubt it) but he isnt getting a dime back...

You pour your soul into something and love it with every part of your body... then some shit head decides he likes it more than you do and either nick's it.. break's into it.. or vandlise it.

My same mate has his other car broken into at a warriors game beside Courier Post... sub and head unit gone.. all the police did was quote him a case number... what a waste of time even calling them.
