Anyone bought off oval.co.nz?

Postby 85AW20v » Mon Apr 16, 2007 12:05 am

Just looking at their prices which seem pretty good. Tardme feedback looks OK as well. So has anyone had any dealings with them - good or bad?
See ya

Just have been looking through their auctions..

It seems they are just auctioning fresh japanese used imports off on Trademe at $1 reserve hoping for a profit. I notice quite a few of them are listed with faults - and they don't allow test drives but have a 7 day drivetrain warranty should nothing be right. As a registered motor vehicle dealer they are required by law to offer more than a 7 day warranty.

If you say anything which they dislike on the auction Q/A they will blacklist you. From the Q&A I also get the impression they don't know a great deal about the cars in question, and they don't even seem friendly with their replies.

If I were looking for a car from a dealer I wouldn't buy from them.

Yeh I was looking at an auction where someone asked for some photos of the dents etc in the car and the guy just said "no thanks"...what a d*ck :?

If I were looking for a car from a dealer I wouldn't buy from them

Theyre not dealers, they're traders...Used to be called "backyard dealers" before they opened it up to anyone with $500 registration fee. :?

Makes the rest of the industry look bad when cowboys (...read tw4ts) like these approach selling like that...I would never buy a car off them.

I'm willing to bet they're bidding on their own cars to drive up the price, no way they'd just stick a $1 reserve on it and risk selling for peanuts... :roll:

Agree, from my experience genuine bidders always leave it to the last minute before bidding. All their cars seem to be at the rough cost of Japanese Auction Grade 3 cars (whatthey would've paid) days away from auction closing.

All care is taken to list the features of oval.co.nz vehicles. We do not warrant the presence or operation of these features.

Has 17" alloys, mad sounds, new paint, A/C etc, but we wont guarantee it.....

What a load of BS

Looks like they just import all the cars that no one else will touch. Seeing as so many cars don't pass a subsequent WOF check after sale.

very dodgy indeed!!

how're they getting them on the road, if they're as $&#$% as buyers seem to make out they are? Im reading problems like ball joints, which would be picked up by most, if not all warrant testers.... and its not just a once off thing by the looks of it.

Are they doing their own warrants, or paying someone a little bit more to let their cars pass?

i like these bits off there site

This is a mechanical failure warranty and excludes wear and tear.

The 7-Day Drive Train Warranty covers the following components only:

* Engine’s internal components
Covers all mechanical components for breakage inside the engine block and cylinder head. This excludes electrical components.
* Transmission's internal components and their operation
Covers components inside the transmission casing and excludes electrical devices.
* Differentials and driveshafts (excluding the CV joints)
Covers breakage/failure and excludes noise

The 7-Day Drive Train Warranty DOES NOT cover:

* general wear and tear
* drive train noise that does not effect the performance of the vehicle
* oil leaks
* service issues (e.g. cambelts are not routinely replaced, but are covered in the event of a breakage)
* general vehicle servicing
* non-drive train electrical issues (e.g. electric windows and mirrors)
* anything outside the terms and conditions of our warranty

camstain1 was the seller
Sold for $6,000.00
(#89173491)
Keyless entry broken, CV joint needs replacement, extremely noisy front suspension. I returned within "warranty" period of 7 days was told to pay more money for a check and they'll look into it. At the same time was told that the vehicle will not be accepted for a claim as none of this is claimable. "7 days warranty" is complete fraud in my case. I am looking at my options and would advise anyone who wants to buy a vehicle from them to think twice as descriptions not accurate. KEEP AWAY.
trader responded: 13 Mar 2007
Have never seen a warranty claim from this trader, keyless entry was not a feature of this vehicle, broken cvs are covered under our warranty however worn (it is 2nd hand) cvs are not covered.

yet they advtise keyless entery as a feature on all of this model of car after 1995 by the factory

i also like how they say test drives not welcome intil money is payed in full

sounds like a right scam

At the end of the day the fact they AUCTION their cars AREN'T covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.....a normal car dealer is bound by this. Like ANYONE selling a car they MUST have a Supplier Information Notice. If you buy from them & there are problems they must abide by the Fair Trading Act & Sales Of Goods Act. They CAN contract out of the Sales Of Goods Act if they say so during the auction.

To be honest though I have taken a car dealer to the motor vehicle disputes tirbunal & it's not really that fun....you would have to go to THEIR town to make the claim (so get up to Auckland) and it's pretty stressful. We won & he had to refund us in full but not really enjoyable & it took a LONG time to get it all sorted.

ALL Oval cars are certified by VTNZ.......they are usually pretty good & not the kind of back yard workshop that would take back handers, in saying that VTNZ can flag a bunch of issues & often a lot of things can LOOK fine visually once re-checked....they can't be expected to remove parts off the car & take them apart to confirm they are new etc.

It's actually a smart idea on their part to do it this way.......the Consumer Guarantees Act is stupid & out dated, it should not be the current cover for motor vehicle sales, the need a new motor vehicle dealers act that is clear cut and specific for motor vehicles.

At the end of the day they are protecting themselves but by getting some much negative feedback it must be a bit damaging for reputation & that can make & break a good business in the long term ;)

Cheers

VTNZ are bullshit.

I've had heaps of cars come in that have failed a warrant on one thing,go to check it and there are mutiple other things wrong with the car (i.e exhaust leaks,wheel bearings are f*cked,tie rod/rack ends stuffed).

OVAL are dodgy,I'd definitely stay away.
