noisy silvertop..

Postby EVL20V » Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:09 pm

ok, so the 20v silvertop blows plenty of smoke when you floor it.

but at idle it sounds like a diesel  not your normal ticking like an rb20 or b16a, but this is more chronic, and quite frankly you would need to unbolt the exhaust to drown out the sound

oil level is sweet, compression is sweet, no knocking or anything.

any suggestions? cheers

I used to have an AE101 Levin, and mine too rattled like crazy. Apparently it was because the shims were quite worn. Like yours it smoked a bit under hard acceleration, but the compression was fine, and so was the oil. If your problem is with the shims too then its just an annoying noise, nothing to worry about. BTW mine had done about 220ks
