what is Ect-s

Hi all. ive just brought a 1992 ae101 toyota levin 20v silvertop 5speed manuel. my question is what does the Ect-s do? from what iv managed to find on google its used in autos to change when the car shifts gears but my cars manuel. please help. Cheers

Have a look on the firewall, what does it say the trans/axel is? It may have been converted to manual at some stage.

Is it on the speedo?
if it so it had either speedo change or manual conversion.
Check the build plate under trans:
if it says C52 then it is came with manual and dash is not orginal
on other hand if says A240E (or something like that - can't remember exactly) then it came with auto but had manual transplants later on.

Thanks guys. thats what i thought must have happened and according to the plate on the firewall i was an auto thats had a manual conversion. cheers

ECT-s is electronically controlled transmission system or something like that.

Found on Autos. What it does is basically make the car shift later(higher rpm). Also have come across mentions of it making a car shift down quicker when there is load etc
