sub & 6x9 query

i herd that 6x9s and subs dont mix
would it still be the case i i mounted the 6x9s IN the frunt doors without any puting holes in the door cards
thnx any ides welcome

They do mix but 6x9's are normally a 'filler' if you aren't going to run subwoofers. You shoud highpass your 6x9's when you put a sub with them.

If mounting 6x9's in the front doors, you will need to cut holes or it will restrict the speaker too much giving poor bass and boomy sounds.

Think about this: You don't use your small auxillary motor on your boat in conjunction with the main motor do ya? Pointless having 2 things doing the same job, so use the best of the two, which in this case is the sub (job being the producer of bass...) so as Deno said, high pass them and they should be fine. If you mount them in the parcel tray, the sound waves from the sub will move the 6x9 cone around a bit when it's not supposed to be moving like that (ie it will stuff with the sound to put it simply) and that could effect sound quality. I think Deno summed it up pretty well: make sure they vent into the door cavity if they are in the doors

can i ask why you want 6*9 up front when you will get alot better sound out of a round speaker the only thing a 6*9 has over a say 6" is its booming base witch if you have a sub you wont really need will you ????

ummm my 6x9's are in boxes in the back window so would there still be a problem with them?
iv got 6x9's and i need to get sum more speakers but im to stingy to replace my 6x9's atm so looking at what i can do with them

On your amp (or headunit) there will be a High Pass Filter.
You can adjust it, one way will make the speaker more bassy, or play more high notes (words, etc)

ok so if i look in the head deck manual will it tell me what the feature is that i need to adjust to high pass my 6x9??

yes basicley you tell the speaker not to play over probly about 80hrz @ a 12db slope probly for you that way the sub douse that work

Anyway, your sub should be low passed which only lets the low sounds past the filter.
You want the 6x9's to be highpassed so only the midrange and treble is audible from them.

LP your sub at 80hz (for the typical window rattling bass) and HP your 6x9's at around 100-180hz.

Try to keep them balanced though, if you run your sub too loud (in comparison)you may have to HP the 6x9's at 1khz so you can crank the 6x9's enough to melt your eardrums without too much distortion
