After link-4age ignitor facts...

Postby no_8wire » Mon Apr 30, 2007 7:55 pm

Well..I have been doing some research as I am about to start wiring in my link, and with that the ignitor.

Some people say you cant use the factory ignitor, and other say you can.

Has anyone actually tried using a factory ignitor before?
Did it work or if not why?

I am asking about a single coil (round type) with attached ignitor as found on late bigports...

...?

standard ignitor will be fine. Ask link for wiring diagram or check their site.

There used to be problems with Link and Toyota Igniters,
dont know but I presume that the newer ECU's will work better.

On the GT4 I worked on it ran but missed and had a weak spark,
after lots of testing and part swapping a Link single channel igniter was used and then it had great spark and the miss was gone.
The toyota igniter started and ran fine, but under high load it did not trigger the coil enough to make a good spark. that was a few years back though, LEM V3 days.

ask the people who say you can't use it what model link they were using.
in my discussions with nick [nzefi], it seems changing sensors etc was quite common with the older links.
with the newer versions there is less and less amount of factory sensors which need changing.

The SR20 and Subaru ignitors used to work pretty well with links back in the day.
