Ahh right'o. Is your dad doing a gte swap? auto or manual? Tell him he'll have to fill us in on his progress on the MKIV mailing list :) ... if he's going to be running a gte auto trans, make sure he gets in touch with me for a dirt cheap mod to make it shift harder and look after the clutches in that trans - very worthwhile.

ohh that sounds promising. as far as i know he's staying auto for a while, as finding parts for the manual are a pain. he's watching a few r154's atm, but most of them are from 7m's, so will have to get a bellhousing sorted as well, which is just as hard to find. his progress is gonna have to be pretty quick as he's moving house in a few months, and his wife has said no car work at the new place, haha! so it means that we have to get all our carparts stored elsewhere :(

i'm pretty sure he's still got your e-mail floating round somewhere, or he can grab it off the mk4 list anyway.

Results for superlap are up on the superlap website...

Tee hee.. I may be fourth to last... but I'm only three seconds slower than a 04 WRX... And I wasn't at 100% due to mechanical issues... I'm sure I should be able to take another second off easily.

Looks like mitsubishi cleaned the field up.
6 of the top 10 were evos.

Brent and his ep91 starlet GT came second overall. Which is a $&#$% good effort. Shows what a well set up light fwd car can do even against advanced 4wd's like evos.
A toyota levin also was in the top 10 as well as two nissans.

Surprisingly all of the evos except for one raced in the private field. Fully street legal, no authority card etc.. What happened to the RX7's and the GTR's?

That Taupo track they used is born and bread for AWD and small light cars as it is very tight the new infeild section that is a reason why that most of the cars that entered were light fwd and AWD cars but it looked like the Evo that won it did it quite easily though there quoting it as having 700 odd at the flywheel I think was a bit generous on NZPC's part.

that infield section is a bit tricky, in third i couldn't use much more than half throttle or it was stepping out, but i put that down more to bad tyres and the suspension needs some fine tuning. in dads n/a i was able to go through to i think turn 5? (the semi right hand hairpin) foot flat to the floor, just gotta get your lines right (helps to be driving dads car instead of your own though, shh, don't tell him that :wink: )

well setup though, i'd say that the toupo track can still work well for the rwd's, just gotta have a well balanced setup that you can still put the power down midcorner without it stepping out too much.

Yeah man I agree having a good setup is key.But with our cars weight is a big issue as well the quick changes of direction through 2,3,4 I to could only use 1/2 throttle I tried going flat through 4 and just about understeered off the track.For our cars we need more flowing higher speed corners but when it comes to quick changes of direction the smaller lighter cars with more grip are just to good.

I had heaps of fun in by bz-g trueno on the queens birthday track day through those corners, just being able to chuck it into that sequence of corners with full throttle. Was awsome.

i think some more frontal downforce on turn 4, the right hander up and over the rise would solve the problem of the front sledging outward. keep the front from lifting. i don't think it was so much a problem of the sharpness of the corner, more the track going up then dropping away. from what i've seen and read about hampton downs, might also be a similar problem there as the track does go up and down a lot.

definitely know what you mean about the weight shifting though, so gotta put my car on a diet :oops:

I don't call that sort of thing a problem! It's a challenge!
Turn 4... yeah it's sort of a off camber crest right turn - I love it!
A key thing for turn 4 is your exit from turn 3, this influences where you are on the track as you enter 4.
Try for a tight exit from 2, this give a wide entry into 3 and a tight exit, this leads to a wide entry into 4 which helps reduce the drift towards the edge of the track leaving 4. You will need a touch of brake to settle the car as you approach the apex at 4, try to make it a late apex and balance the car with a bit of power as you go over the crest and then get on the gas as you drift out to the edge of the track as you approach 5.
Easy, sort of.
Just think of sacrificing a good line through 2 to make 3 and 4 faster/better.

it was cool watching barry at one point have the levin sideways around the the corner andover the slight crest and half way down that straight, still managed to hang onto it. :lol: looked cool from pit lane.

my impression was very cool track, much better than the old one.

thats what i found out too ken, funny thing was it took me driving dads car to learn it, as i didn't have the power, and had better brakes, i had more time to see how the corner was coming up, and what was better ways to take it, so when i went back out in mine, i could then apply what i had learnt previously, and it worked too, i was coming into the hairpin at turn 5 a lot faster due to coming through 2, 3, and 4 a lot better setup.

can't wait to get back out on taupo when the jz's finished the next set of upgrades 8) might be able to stick with you a bit better next time coryn!

I'm trying to get back to Taupo in July for Clubsubs track day there they are quoting the A1 configured track but I think thats all the luck of the draw is'nt it you kinda got to get lucky hope they have had a race meeting the weekend previous so they have'nt moved the tyres back??

Now with me having only done new Taupo once the 2 sections that did do my head in were the big sweeper and the esses coming onto the front straight.Especially the sweeper I think I was almost having a yawn I was so slow around that corner and I no sure as hell it cost 5-10 KPH down the chute.Well the esses after that with both sections being off camber well I spun 3rd lap out so sure as shooting I can do bettrer there also..

C'mon some of you Taupo regulars pipe up 2jayzgte needs some advice and help.... :lol:
