Tuning the stock 3S-GTE ECU

Also interesting is that the ECU appears to "learn" and switch between high and lo performance maps 8O

holycrap that guy is hard core, does he have a programing degree from MIT or something, if hes successful he could make alot of pocket money.

well we do know the ecu has got a limp mode
so 2 maps i guess is just a way of ezplaining that

i do like however having access to the stock maps...though when he sarts saying he could get rid of teh afm...i started to have my doubts on the vadality of it

also why would he chouse a mk2 ecu...why not use a aw11 a/c ecu...there in essance the same thing

because then he could use his car for a test bench & damage that not some one alses

We sell a similar setup for European cars, mainly Audi & VW, the difference is the program is written by a reputable company, RevoTechnic. Basically we download the software into the stock ECU and big gains can be recognised in HP and torque, driveability is also improved dramatically.
A switch can be used that just plugs into the OBD port on the car, to switch between stock and performance maps. Tends to be very reliable aswell.
Difference is this guy looks like the mad scientist in his garden shed, I think I would like to see a few examples of succesful installs before I trusted him with my car.
Interesting though.

lol seams odd to me
TBH i think i couls get a mk2 ecu to work in a aw11......or a silvertop.....or a smallport
at teh end on the day they wore of the measured air to calculate fuel
smaller motors suck less air....

I tend to agree... reverse engineering anything these days, especially anything by a big company, tends to be on the grey side of the law.

Good on him though, hobby electronics is very very cool... in a geeky nerdy way :)

i was thinking more along the lines of aftermarket companies than toyota itself. decoding stock ecus has been happening for years

^ been thinking about it for my 1jz as I did that shit at uni play with micros all the time but for the time I'd have to invest may aswell go buy a megasquirt

Yep, flash-tuned my Astra and power went from 153kw to 176kw and torque went from 260nm to 320nm, all through the factory diagnostic port! :D :D :D

In yankee land they seem to do subarus like that, or atleast have quite a lot in the past... is this an every car type but toyota thing?

its more to do with whats in the ECU, RS leagcys, early WRX's, evo 123 etc have a common EPROM that makes them easy to "chip" early DENSO ecu's dont have this and its harder (so u have to do things like that guy). from about 99-01 car makers starting bringing out factory ECU's out that have a flash memory that can be reflashed (more to fix factory map f**k ups with updated maps without having to admit a problem and replace ECU's) alost all ECU's in brand new cars are reflashable thru the OBD-2 port with the correct softwere
