Hi there, am looking for a new alarm for a new car, have spied an AVS S5 which says it has a turbo timer interface, Does this mean if you have a pre existing turbo timer you can set it up to be able to run while the car is alrmed etc? Is it hard to install/use this feature?

Is it hard to set up, the aforementioned alarm is 5 star rated, and I can get one for $280, I have a few sources that I get get it installed at, But does anyone know a better, around the same price or cheaper alarm system? The more stars rated the better :idea:

I would look at the Dynatron d3800/7800.
Both are 5star rated and have the ability to be used as a turbo timer with a 'turbo chip' (about $70 retail from memory)

There is no physical turbo timer needed, just the chip and slightly different wiring at the installers end.

Dynatron very easy to use, insurance standard approved and come with 24hour support and roadside assistance.

I have the AVS 3010 in the Mini & Libero......it is the entry level AVS alarm but is still a 4star. It works fine with our turbo timer, in fact I have had entry level Unidens in other cars with a turbo timer & they also work fine. I believe a decent installer can make most alarms work fine with a turbo timer.

We get out, arm it while the car is still counting down then walk away, once the car stops the alarm stays armed :)

You sure about that?

We fit them at work.
The turbo chip allows you to arm and lock the car, but the inmmobiliser wont activate untill the engine stops.
All the ones we have done still required a separate T/timer.

Yep, Iam sure!

As you said, the car will not immobilise untill the turbo timer has run out. (if fuel was used for a immobiliser, it wouldnt run anyway) But you can still arm the vehicle which will lock the doors and still give you door boot and bonnet protection. So if someone broke into the car within a minute of you arming it, it will still activate the siren and light flash.

Personally I would take a turbo chip over a add-on turbo timer.

unless you plan on doing anything to do with motor sport, as you won't be allowed to use your car, Turbo timers are not allowed as if you roll your car or crash you could potentially have it running for a time after the ignition is switched off :?

Anyway you guys were too late, but thanks for the advice, just got the turbo timer removed as it's not really needed IMO, alarm added 5 star rated with all the bells and whistles :lol:

the avs s5 has the turbo timer interface which can run of existing turbo timer or be wired up as aturbo timer itself. with battery backup siren, glass break and shock sensors, 3x imobiliser and all the other bells and whistles its a good choice. as a installer myself i would recomend it :)
