Power Gains for a 20v Blacktop

Postby Matty104 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 10:05 am

Hey just wondering if anyone has any sugestions to get some more power out of my 20v, don't want to do anything to hard out, more cost effective with results lol, already got stainless intake and pod, with air directed strait from the ground, and 2.5" exaust system, did a dyno yesterday and was F*#%N dissapointed,, any ideas would be appreciated.

Man.

Search for fcuks sake. Second most common questions behide 4agtes.

Really though, you can't do shit all.

Starts costing fast now, cars (and 4ages) are not cheap.

Ecu is probably going to be the cheapest decent thing, but thats beginning to cost money.

Decide turbo or na, and go from there.

Hmm, that is a bit low for a Blacktop. I got that much and I have a silvertop :D It was completely standard then aswell....

slighty_sykotic ... newbis are newbis.... rather than blowing your top link back to some of the blacktop stuff.

Sounds like it needs a good check over as it is a little low, what mufflers are in your 2.5"?

Re make the 2-1 of extractors

From there on... its $$$$... ecu, cams, rebuild with goodies

You're probably losing power from having too big an exhaust. Drop back to 2 1/4" and it pick up again

could be just the dyno.....

do as above for exhaust, 2-1 section is the biggest improvement there!!

other than checking if everything is as it should be, next step is $$$ and ecu.

end of the day, who cares what ya dyno says.... what does it feel like to drive?

yea the dyno does run quite low so ive heard, and a m8 run 190kw on another 1 in his skyline standard, then got bigger turbo and front mound etc and still only got 190 on this dyno, so it does run quite a bit more than that thank god, but your rite there mr revhead, feels like its got the power for a cruzing wagon.at the end of the day thats what i brought it for haha, bt gains arn't a bad thing,,, will look into those headers aswell

I have a silvertop and changed my 2.5'' exhaust back to factory 2 1/4'' and butt dyno said it had more pull in the lower rmp's

I had 2 1/4 on my silvertop. You are right the more restrictive the exhaust the better lower down it feels. i had 3 exhaust systems that i would altrenate between. One quiter more restrictive that i used to run 80% of the time was with one resonator and a straight through cannon - was actually quiter than it sounds because the resonator had a plug thing in the middle that actaully forced 50% of the gasses around it into the packing. #2 used exhaust was straight through to rear muffler, no resoator and was quite loud and sounded much like an angry wasp in a bottle - used this one for track days and a couple days before the drags were happening - incidently made slightly more torque and power than other exhaust but was higher up in rev range so was better to drive fast with. #3 exhaust was never dyno's because no one would run the car with no exhaust from headers back - used to run this at drags only, don't know how much more power it made over #2 exhaust but ran consistently .2 of a second quicker and 4mph faster at the traps. Probably because there was less low down torque, and power if not more was moved higher in the rpm range than #2 making it easier to drive off the line and keeping it well in the power band at least untill i hit 4th - damn 4th gears are far to long on the things.

So for round town and the odd bit of track work get a 2 1/4 with the least restriction you can get out of it and if you want to go fast at the drags and your allowed to do it in your class get one that you can unbolt at the headers.
Not this works in personal experience only, actual results may vary
