starter motor probs

Postby Dirtbag » Sat Jun 02, 2007 3:38 am

when i turn the key the starter motor screams away, but only sometimes actually starts spinning up the engine, sometimes itll engage right away (like usual) sometimes i have to try it about 5/6 times 2 second blasts to get it to engage. Its just randomly started happening, as far as I can remember only thing changed has been the side engine mount (battery side ae101)

any help on diagnosing the problem would be much appreciated

sticky throw solenoid... either get a replacement or get adventurous and take it off and apart and clean it out.

so giving starter motor a bit of a tap might get the solenoid working better?

if the solenoid doesnt pull in the contacts wont touch and the motor wont spin at all. the one-way clutch on the pinion might be slipping. or damaged teeth on the pinion or ring gear.
meh.....

That would be my guess. Quite common on some type of starters.
