how similar are black and silver top looms?

Postby gasman » Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:13 pm

my loom currently has most of the plugs chpped of and just spade terminals crimped on the ends and plugged into the socket. im wanting to replace the loom when i get a new ecu but im having a hard time finding a blacktop loom.
so how similar are the plugs and wire colours of the silvertop compared to the blacktop?

completely different plugs, similar wire colours. Due to AFM vs MAP looms are different.

Sorry to hi-jack thread, but on the same note - are you able to use s/t sensors on b/t? Thus keeping the s/t loom?

ie: TPS, dizzy plug, injectors, etc....

Everything seems to plug in fine, I'll have an answer for you on that one some time soon.

upon closer inspection I'm only missing the vvt, oil pressure and altenator plug.

so i will only need them and as long as the wire colors are the same it should save me a lot of confusion.

on another note the wires going to the blacktop alternator (plug one) are just 3 small wires where as on my ae92 loom they are i think 2 fat wires and one small wire. anyone know why this is?

so now another question is how much of the 4agze loom and b/t loom match up because im planning to run a MAP sensor 4agze bottom end with the b/t head and Linkplus G2

just re-pin the afm wires to where the map is suppose to be and ditch the other two afm wires you dont need

There should be at least one big thick wire. It might be earthed thru the engine block but will need one big thick wire for the positive lead. If its the same as the silvertop ones it connects with a seperate 10mm nut onto a stud on the alternator.

on the origonal black top alternator there are 2 fat white wires which are bolted to the alternator and one plug with 3 small wires.
on my current set up i have 2 fat white wires bolted to alternator and on the plug there is one med white one med yellow and one small black/yellow wire.

the wires on the plug were to power in cabin accessories, charge light, and charge fuse.

im just wondering why on the b/t loom they are all smaller wires compared to the ae92 plug which are medium sized wires

dont tell anyone but thats the secret power of the blacktop very small wires,

could it be the quality of the wire makes up for the size difference? less resistance? i know there is a 100a fuse on the sucka so no problem handling the power.

or because one white wire goes to the starter and the other goes to the batt+
and on the ae9# have one big fat one going to batt+ then splinting to starter.
