headgasket quality

Postby bluemaumau » Fri Jun 15, 2007 11:04 am

i know you get what you pay for but my mates run into a little issue before he gets his laurel going.

he needs a headgasket so hes gone and priced some up.

BNT and Repco both want around 230
whlst supercheap wants 130.

can there be much difference in build quality? or are bnt/repco just rip offs.

would you get the supercheap one?

for a rb20det btw

cheers

Supercheap's tools are crap (ie soft metal) so if the Headgasket is their own brand I'd steer clear.

Is it the same brand as Ripco's one?

Same manufacturer... or at least it was about 1 1/2 years ago when I was looking at that stuff.
Ripco's retail pricing is ridiculous. Supercheap seem to be the most reasonable source for any gaskets.

Actually, for toyota gaskets Mr Revhead is better :)

a while ago i price up a headset for a 20v:
Repco retail $700ish
Repco Staff ~$400
Toyota Genuine $108

And yeah, supercheap and repco both generally stock ACL gaskets.
STA parts lists rb20de headgasket for <$130, is it same part as rb20det?

supercheap do real good deals on ACL stuff as ACL supply's the items to supercheap cheaper than it does to repco.

by heady i hope you mean headSET!

repco, like every business has to make $$ to survive.

having said that, they certainly have gotten a LOT dearer in the last coupla years.
and supercheap...... "censored"

ACL gaskets are ok, you just have to be careful you get all you need in the kits, anf they are the rights ones... iv come across a few mistakes in their kits.

Such as? I bet I've sold more than you have, and I've never heard of anyone complaing about incorrect gaskets.

L series diesels and 2e kits.

had a few with incorrect manifold gaskets on the 2e and oil cooler and one or two others on the L ones.

havnt had anything to do with them since i came here though

but no matter what the brand, you should always check them
