ok the old mr2 is getting a little bit boring although it is a fun car to drive and handles awsome i want a bit more power so here are the options remembering that im onlt 18 and i dont want 2 spend a shitload of money on insurance even though i will anyway but here it goes
1-sell the mr2 get a s/c mr2 do moderate mods pulley etc
2-sell mr2 get series 4 rx7 be happy with the performance it has and do up looks
3-sell mr2 get ma70 supra same as mr2 do some moderate mods
4-sell mr2 get ae92 gtz moderate mods maybe turbo conversion
5-sell mr2 try find s13 silvia/180sx so that up

there it is whats the best option i would like to keep the budget to 8 grand

s/c mr2 goes hard i reckon and reliable aswell, good fun to drive aye. I used to love kaning around in my sistes old one before she had a head on crash in it.

s/4 rx7 will only cause you troubles. My mate has one and he got a stage 2 rebuild and manual conversion after his seals blew. He was supposed to do 10'000km then get it rebuilt again i think. but before he did all the kays the seals blew again. hes giving up on it now he cant be bothered with the hassles. My sister used to have one aswell and it hardly ever started and just crapped out at mc donalds and hasnt worked since.

Supra would be good but costs heaps to fix when they crap out. As there getting old now and theres not many good condition ones around anymore. And most need a good tidy up and most are auto aswell which sux. I own one myself and its cost me thousands so far especially when the head gasket goes which it will!. The only other things i hate about them is there thirsty on gas and have inadaquate fuel system and needs upgrading before any decent mods. And to upgrade the suspension properly u gotta get coil overs cause anything else just stuffs the suspension up big time. Other than that the drivetrain and engines are bulletproof and look quite stylish with some fat mags the long bonnet and wide body look always appealed to me. Kinda like corvette look. Very safe in a crash and handle good for there size and weight and real cruizy to drive. You kinda gotta really want one though dont just buy one for the hell of it. Theres a lot to learn about them.

ae92 anything will suck cause there FWD. end of story. not that much potential with FWD. there a bit common and boring now. But still very good car if u want a good allrounder. Quite reliable and decent power and stuff and should last for ages withougt any hassles i guess.

S13 silvias are ugly inside and out, crap gearboxes and diffs and weak tinny bodys and suspension. But quite rear in turbo manual form and still worth a bit if u find a good one. You can heaps of fun in them though and good to do up still and go hard in and drift and stuff like that.

So there u have it. My choices would be different for whatever purpose i needed a car for.

-Id go for s/c mr2 cause there fun to drive and quite rare still.

-Supra for the weekends and good allround sports car to do up and look after and good for cruises and the race track every now and then

-series 4 rx7 no way. nothing good about them at all unless you really want one.

-ae92 good for everything. but not as exciting to own as the others.

-180sx for good fun drifitng and thrash / race/drift car but thats about it.

RX7

Postby Looonie » Sat Jul 27, 2002 11:12 am

Quite simply mate, get an RX7. You can pick them up for 2-3k, work on the body and sounds until she blows, then get her rebuilt with 3mm apex seals for around 3k, filter and exhaust, check she's fuelling sweet and you've got a honker of a car that you can make look phat and handle nicely...

Really the best choice out of your list. The supra's too heavy, although a very nice car and would probably be my second choice. MR2's are nice as well but too small for my liking, and reallly only useful as a track car. AE92 GTZ... well I've had 3 and they're good little cars, and can handle nicely, but they're still FWD so the only fun you can really have with them sees you going through new tires every month...

Thats my opinion, most other ppls will differ (especially as this being a toyota board n all)

Pick which car you like the looks of best, and decide whether you want light weight or heavy cruiser, then find the best example you can with your $$.

But most of all, buy a car that YOU'RE happy with, you're the one owning it, ignore ppl who diss your car or tell you something else is better just because they own the same make/model or whatever. follow your gut.

thanks for the imput i like the aw11 mr2's mine handles better than my mates old gtz and the mr2 only has koni ajustables in the front theyre awsome but they are only 2 seater so thats the only issue with one of those.
the rx7 might b a bit 2 expensive on insurance and might b a little 2 unreliable but they look good and from what i have read theyre performance figures look quite encouraging.
im kinda swaying towards a gtz at the moment i loved my mates one and with a few suspention mods they handle great, i know theyre fwd but every car i have mentiond has a dissadvantage and id rather have a back seat and the reliability of the 4agze over the mr of the mr2 and the performance of the 13b

but thanks for the imput anyway its good to hear from other peoples experiences

Dude I really hope you've got a good job - I can't see that many insurence companys going.....ok so you're 18 and you've got a drift weapon (minus the gtz of course...) you have roughly at least 150kw at the wheels.

I reckon buy a new levin - they're stonkers and the money you save on insurence can help a) pay off the huge loan and b) make it go faster than the rota, the aw11 or the gtz

But then again.... RWD action kicks ass!!!

If you were going to go for the RX7 I would recommend you to go for a series 5, they are pretty much the same as the series 4 but tonnes more reliable, the series 4 was mazda's first try at building a turbo rotary and there were lots of issues and troubles with it.

GTZ's are nice looking cars, look beautiful with a set of shiny chrome mags.

Your choice really, go for something YOU like.. not what other people think/like.

Cheers

which car to get

Postby g-lo » Mon Jan 27, 2003 3:41 pm

series 4 rx7s arent that much quicker than the other two
cars you were talking about, cos the rx7 weighs quite a bit
i think, so youd probably get bored with that too. i say go the ae92
turbo conversion, unless your not too keen on front wheel drives,
then do a mr2 turbo conversion :P , whatever you choose have fun
