GT4 ST185 wiring help

Postby matt dunn » Fri Jun 29, 2007 9:55 pm

Does anyone know what colour wire is the one for the speed signal to the ECU on an ST185 GT4?

I am presuming they are like all other Toyota's and have the gearbox sender that goes to the dash, then a signal from the dash to the ECU for the speed limiter.

Aim of this is not to remove the speed limiter, but to install one into the linkplusG3. The loom has been cut off at the ECU plugs, and reconnected to suit the ECU and is all running etc, but we need to put in a 200kmh limiter for targa.

On the ST185 it will most likely be Blue/White, the other possibility is Violet/White.

yeah it runs straight from the gearbox, not from the speedo, and it is blue/white as already mentioned.

Hmmm.

Found the blue/white from at the speedo, but cant find one at the ECU end.

And I also thought it would come from the speedo to ECU not the g/box directly, but I will check it out directly to the sender and see.
Time to get the scope out I think.

Maybe I should.

Had I have been thinking properly I would have figured out that the 3 wire speedo sender puts out a digital square wave, not an analogue signal like a lot of the 2 wire stufff we deal with at work.

A digital signal does not need to go to the dash to get converted like the analogue ones.

Anyway, with the scope I found Blue and Black
in one of the engine harness to body harness connectors near the ECU plugs
that is a sq wave speed signal so it's all go.

Just have to take it for a drive to calibrate it.
