find one with a dead 3 litre V6, find a 3.4 quad cam V6 from 185 series surf and put it in the hole.

the 3L V6 are pathetic compared to a 2JZGE considering its the same capacity

a 1uz conversion into a surf, depending how much you do yourself will cost around $3500 as bare minimum, if paying someone, you'l be looking at 10 grand, drive in and drive out conversion..

supra conversion using M series is much cheaper and easier to do.

The m series is a really easy conversion to do, Have had mine for almost a year now on custome engine mounts and have just done one using the stock engine mounts, you need a body lift to do this though and unless you lift the gearbox the engine sits on a funny angle, we have done my mates this way and his truck has a flat underbelly.

I have a bellhousing for this conversion forsale at the moment, use it for a 5M 6M 7M or 7MGTE conversion.

The wiring is really easy to do as well

I'm going to be looking for a hilux in a few months as need a tow for the boat.

was thinking maybe a 94-96 hilux / surf. Anyone got any comments on them or recommendations of other reliable tow wagons?

Will be used to tow on gravel roads around the coromandel and far north as well as on the beach etc for launching

well theres 2 it will tow, but not both at once of course

One a 3.9m inflatable like the surf rescue ones with 25hp - this is the one towed on the gravel and beach launched etc

the other 6.5m alloy hull hardtop with 140hp - more likely to be towed on motorway/highway to tutukaka etc and launched off concrete ramp

either the 130 serie surfs (89-94) or the 185 series surfs (95+) would suit you. The 130 series surfs run 15 inch rims which give you a lot more tyre options over the 16's the 185 series surfs require.

are you looking at petrol or deisel?

Not sure re petrol or diesel yet....still very much looking into it.

Need something thats reliable, ok on the gas and can tow no worries. Will probably be crashing out in it during the odd overnight mission too so some comfort wouldn't go a miss.

I do remember some issues with the fuel pumps of diesels and needing the make sure they have been replaced etc but keen for any other tips on either variants.

Cheers
