To all those that know me, I'm sad to say I'm leaving for Perth on 25th August. Hopefully I'll catch up with everyone before I go.

Good luck over there Mike, everyone seems to want to go over to Oz , must be the better money offered.

Lets just say my hourly rate is pretty much double that of NZ (and i was on $20)

Its a bit easier to save when you have spare $$$$ every week.

There are alot of mining jobs going at the moment.
I think Tom Price iron ore mine are looking for 100 people at the moment, paying between 65 and 90k a year, for dump truck drivers.

I think that they are that short of people that they are flying people in from the eastern states, and if they can't find suitably qualified persons, they will train people up to do the job!!

No better time to come over than now!!

I've moved over here too.
The mining boom has pushed many industries up as well. I design timber roof trusses and in Christchurch I was getting $40k. Over here (North Queensland) I'm getting almost three times that, plus a car.
And you get taxed far less as well.
I don't plan to live here forever. But while the goings good..

Best move you'll make.

Living expenses are the same IMO. If they are different it's so naff all you don't notice.

Cars are more expensive, an S15 here is 30k, compared to 18k at home. But thats only imports. Brand new cars are cheap as. We just bought a new Yaris with all the bells and whistles for $15,200 AUD delivered.

I also just bought a new jet ski. 250x Ultimate, 250hp. Came on trailer, with all rego and accesories for $21 something. Which is far cheaper than at home, a friend of mine works at a ski store in Chch, and he sells the same ski 2nd hand for that price.

THe only thing that is more expensive is housing. THough that'll depend on where you go. We're in a popular area and I would estimate the housing prices are 50% more than in Christchurch. But when you're making a grand or two extra a week, it off-sets it.

Did you realise there's complusary super-ann here. Its not like that kiwisaver crap where you pay. Your employer pays 9% of your wage into a fund that you select. Thats an extra 9%, not 9% from your package.
And if you find the right fund you can draw on it a lot earlier than the main stream funds. I will be able to draw on mine once I'm 50. And I can take it all in one hit.

isnt there an issue where if your an NZer you cant acsess it form here?
ie if you leave aussie, kiss it goodbye.

If you leave Aussie it stays here. If you're from another country you can claim it when you leave Aussie, but NZ'ers have the right to retire in Aus, so you can't claim it when you leave.

But as I said, you can choose your own fund/terms that suit you.

Did I mention first home buyers grant? $7000 given to you when you buy your first home. They're considering doubling it too, by I'm pretty sure its going to be means-based. Meaning that unless you're on ther bones of your ass, you won't get it. At the moment, its not means-based, we're looking at buying a place right now, so we can claim it while we can.

And the weather, its a cool 21 degrees today. Middle of winter.

Some many positives.

I think BHP in Port Headland pays really well, $1,000 a week or more? My uncle is pretty high up in management or something and he's responsible for all the running of all the trains at the moment i beleive. And his son works for BHP too i think and earns $1,000 to $2,000 a week? Don't quote me, but i know it is an absolutely ridiculous amount of money.

Hey! Just wanted to say that you will not regret moving to Oz. My partner and I moved to Brisbane at the end of March this year - best decision we have made in a while. I agree with all the positive comments made above.
