quick one: HT Leads

As a general guide if I was to run a mulitmeter across leads whats resistance should I expect. (round abouts) in the past if one was different I took that to mean one or three of them were stuffed.

aproximately 1.21 giga ohms :P
But if you were to run a meter over them you would hope for bugger all resistance, 0 would be nice but find out what the resistance of the leads in your meter is, then test, - the res in your meter and, maybe if you can find a set that you know is good test one of them then compare them with yours. Basicly the lower resistance the better but i guess you knew that a.
I only say - the res in your meter cos you probably using a $29 dick smith jobbie knowing you :roll:

Hmmm, ok.
You want to know what the resistance of ignition leads are? yes?

The general rule of thumb for supression core leads is about 10-20k ohms per metre from memory. So, normal leads on a four cylinder car should be up to 15k ohms and not normally more.

Spiral wound core leads are lower resistance again, get your hands on some if you can.

they can vary quite a bit between a set of leads, due to the differing lengths, so doesn't mean they're buggered.

As above, can vary a fair bit. Usually about 8k/ft and no more than 16k per lead. If you have one thats more then its alright as long as the others are all proportionally right compared to that one. Likewise with lower resistance

thats awesome thats what I want to know. I will Measuer and see what I can come up with.

And jimmy, Im using a multimeter from work that is probably bout a 200-300dollar one that has been recently calibrated :P

Also if you put lead on your car with no resistance,

known as wire leads,

I doubt your EFI car would run.

Well ya learn something every day my bad cos i've never actually tested any. :oops:
How'd you manage to con the boss into letting you borrow a decent meter any way dan, they must be very trusting. :lol:
