theres sh*tloads of mint cars for 10G..

For insurance purposes, id want a good naturally aspirated car Two company's that come to mind are Toyota and Honda, now i have been interested in the Civic EK hatches with the Vtec, they are really nice cars, but trying to find a Civic that hasn't got a body kit and extras fitted is quite hard to find on trade me.
Also considering a Mitsi Libero GT, but i hear they are quite expensive to maintain, and insurance is quite high, especially for an under 25y/o, e.g. me

hey dude, yeah, well I can't really apologise for my dads actions haha, even though there wasn't much he could do about it!!!! yeah well the volvo, that things solid, my finger knows that after i jammed it in the door, wasn't right for a couple of months!

my suggestion for something different to a levin/trueno how about a AE111 GT Corolla?? ( rev do these come with an airbag?? )

maybe i'm a bit bias because i drive an ae92 gt, but there's not too many around wellington, whereas i'm getting a bit sick of looking at bzg/bzr's haha.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 3.htm?p=22 (could possibly do with some lowering springs lol )

That's the only one I could find on trademe for your price range, but if you looked around I'm sure you could find more

I don't blame your dad, i really don't, i know he wouldn't have had the reaction time to stop after that manovure from the Subaru, if anything i feel kinda sorry for him having to pay my side of the insurance, money doesn't come easy.
That car looks quite good, however, car must be in the Wellington region.
How is the Blacktop performance wise? Would it be a good gain over my smallport?

Performance wise it will definitely be a good gain over your smallport.

Saying that, the smallport is the best of the 16v motors and pretty much everyone on here has a differing opinion.

I really like my blacktop, just keeps pulling and pulling in the high revs and I don't think low down torque is as bad as people make it out to be.

It all comes down to how much your intending to modify your engine, to make the same power a blacktop did with a smallport, you'd probably have to spend a bit of money!!

We have a 96 AE110 levin with a blacktop, aftermarket extractors, 2.25" stainless exhaust, lowered, nice light black wheels - if you wanted to take it for a drive we are in wellington. Wouldnt want more than $5k for it either.

If you're keen chuck us a PM and ill send you some photos.

Ive been looking at the very small selection of cars available in Wellington, and I've come across this Toyota Corolla:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =106869619

A standard Corolla with a GZE engine in it.
And yes, i don't like the bonnet with those grill things on it.
My question to all you knowledged folk;
Will the car be as reliable, engine wise, as it was before when the engine was in the Levin? Or will i be having troubles cause the engine doesn't like the new body?

People that have done engine transplants, are the engines just as reliable?

I know its just a standard corolla, would be better in an FXGT of the same year....

Well it'll be more stressed than a factory one obviously, it wouldnt have been swapped to drive around nicely
Still, its a 4AGZE and will be tough as nails anywauy, so should be fine. That one wont likey have airbags though ;)

It really does depend on how the engine has been treated. Sorry, there's no "safe" answer here. It might last 5 years, it might last until next Tuesday.

Get a mechanic, a GOOD mechanic to look at it.

However, with a new bonnet, and those wheel turned gunmetal, that'd be a very nice car. I hate the bonnet and the wheels though, just a personal taste thing.

And i agree with you there, but they are easy enough to change.
So mechanics, and good ones at that, come with me to have a look at the car....

Any real reason you are limiting purchase to wellington? e.g. its not really much $$ to transport from Aucks to welly, and this could open possibilities.

& as above, check with insurance companies, you may get shafted with above being a modified car.
Cant believe im still a member here.

you'll probably find that most of the major ones wont go near it, sadly - and you end up paying through your nose for some broker...

like the others said, it depends on how and how the swap was done by, but afaik the FX-SJs are very similar to the FXGTs, apart from the engine, which has been changed anyway.

it would be a pretty fun car to own though - superchargers are great at the lights ;)

So i just came back from test driving that corolla...holy crap its difficult to drive, the clutch is just horrible, its either power on, or power off, and no variation in between, its pretty much just like dropping the clutch every time you set off. The power however, holy cow, they go, those 4agze engines, they definitely go, miles quicker than my smallport.

Thats just my update, i think im going to go ahead and get my self a levin/trueno.
