Clutch Change

Postby solitaire » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:47 pm

Can anyone recomend a good trustworthy mechanic who isnt too pricey but will do an honest job? Toyota want $400 labour to replace the clutch on the levin... which is a bit steep for me...

DIY :P

Give Ray @ Sonic Automotive in Manukau a call.
He's done some work for me and has been rather well priced.

clutch change in a levin is less than 3 hours.
however sh1t does happen... but i think $400 is a little much....

Must be Auckland prices...I was quoted more than that labour from NS toyota several years back on my ole ae92...went elsewhere and have done my own since.

Any chance you could ask the boys down there how long they think it would take Rev?

Ps. If im getting the clutch done is there anything else worth doing?cv's, flywheel etc...

I'd expect a flywheel to get machined if paying someone, however, I know some places will just give it a bit of a scrub with sandpaper if it isnt too bad.

flywheel skim is a requirement for TNZ warranty

lets pit another way, full retail on the complete job i would expect to be under $600.
that incudes a $280 clutch kit

i cant think of the last time i was under an AE92, i know the 101s are a bit of a pain with the engine mounts n stuff. rev reckons three hours which seems a little low to me, im assuming its easier in the 92s than the 101s?

we charge about $50/hour i think solitaire, in grey lynn

maidstone motors, 378 4890 if you want to chat to my boss, dave.

to a good mechanic, whos done many corollas (our w/shops full of them) its less than 3 hours. with a hoist etc that rear mount isnt an issue.

ae8#-1## corollas are pretty basic to work on!

having said that, a lot of shops will quote 4 hours to cover the aforementioned "shit happens"

For normal road use I would keep the standard flywheel imo
