I pay a shade over $1300 a year for insurance.

Of course, that is insuring 2 cars, a house, all the contents, and then a separate contents insurance for my rental..... Who says being old and responsible sucks?

You could also try Pioneer. They were the only ones that would insure me. Tad pricey but at least they didnt laugh when I told them what car I have. I think Pioneer may be a bit cheaper than NAC. But beware - Pioneers rating has just dropped from good to fair due to all that stuff in the news about that guy defrauding them :/

Paid $900ish a year with NAC for my 1991 ae101 4agte. Fully certed and all mods listed.

Thats full cover.

But thats my 60% no claims for being a good boy :)

As mentioned, go into the places rather than call on the phone. Im late 20's and a few years ago I had an issue getting 3rd party on the phone for my mini! I openly stated I had drived without insurance for a few years, but prior to that had almost a clean 10 year record. No accidents, no road offences except for one parking ticket. On the phone the guy basically said I was a crim...lol. I went in and got an apology and insurance. You are younger, so its still more difficult, but go in anyway.

Weird that about not getting a quote without all details e.g. rego. Ive done it in the past.

could go the parents insure route, but they are cracking down on that now days.
Cant believe im still a member here.

Hmmm well I have foudn state to be quite good bar a couple of things. At the moment I'm paying $1100 for my BZG (full cover) and I questioned them about it and they said its a high risk car as well - stupid thing being is that I had my GSR with mods which was worth twice the price insured with them for $900 per year so go figure - all that with a 60% no claim bonus. I feel im getting ripped for owning a 1.6L hahaha.

Ive been with state for most of my driving life - only dissapointement i had with them was that they said they would insure me to drive an evo 4 then a day later after id made an offer on the car and went to isnure they declined my insurance telling me they dont insure evos to people under 25 which annoyed me cause it made me look stupid.

Anyway it does suck how state will sting you for driving such a 1600 - it does suck but you can tahnk all the little boy racers who do crash them and speed in them - i mean you cant blame them to much cause they are fun little cars ;)

Full insurance seems to get pricey the older the car.

I had a nightmare getting insurance for my levin when i was 18... they have a bad reputation.

Suck it up and pay the insurance for a couple of years and get yourself an insurance history.

Failing that but a regular corrolla mate... its not fair but its the way it is...

having said that 3 months into owning my levin i created a massive nose to tail on queen street... guess the insurance copmanies where right eh?

I went into the state office in wellington, god finding a car park was a bitch.
But i think I've managed to get insurance for the car, paying $600, but with an excess of $1200 if i crash... So good outcome from going into the office and talking it over with them.
I told the man, that the lady on the phone told me the car is too 'powerful' for someone of my age, he just laughed, and i laughed along.

Anyways, i think its sorted, i think, theres still a little of a muddle up, i will have to call up and confirm.

If the budget will stretch a bit, get a corolla runx/Allex/RS180 with the 2zzge, most of the insurance companies don't know what they are yet, and so insurance is done on the base corolla model.

costs me ~$30 a month for $18k with 200 excess with a 65% no claims.

Yup. My sparkling insurance history with state lets me insure my supra for $690 p/yr full cover, even though i've lost my licence a couple times and have have so many speeding tickets i lost count years ago - history means EVERYTHING. Im still under 25 too (just :-/)

Oh and yea, GO IN to the branch, smiles and all, well dressed etc, make a point of knowing who you talk to and always go back to them (Carroll @ State Rotorua, lovely lady :-D ) - its too easy for some phone rep at the other end to say no just because he thinks he knows what kinda person you are. All about attitude. Plus if you have another car, insure it with them also, the more business they're getting off you the more likely they will be to help.

Yea mum was considering getting me one of these, i really wouldn't have mind one of those i quite like them, especially in black, the 6 speed manual with the 190 (hp) Celica motor right? But they were going for about $15-16 gran, mums not about to buy a car like that for a 17 year old...

Im willing to pay them the money. i've got a clean history with them... yet still, a subaru is a subaru. A twin turbo one at that :x

My insurance is pretty reasonable for my 20v trueno with FMG. I pay $60 a month for full cover but with a $900 excess due to how long i have had my full and being under 21. Although they don't just insurance your car you have to do your contents with them as well to or something.

Stuff NAC. Go with Clic insurance. They are really great. I have a fair few mods and stuff on my Lancer, and is reasonable. Besides the point though I've never made a claim which is on my side, and I've had my full since I was 16 which is on my side too. This would be my third Mitsi. Try Clic bro, see what they'll do with you.

Well my history is insurance under my own name for 5 years on about 6 different cars including modded turbo cars. Not one claim ever, never lost my license and only 3 minor speeding fines.

It doesn't seem to mean much.

The joys of getting insurance when you are young. I remember trying to insure an Alfa Romeo when I was 20 and being laughed at as they called it a performance European and refused to touch it.

At least now they have moved past basic typecasting and have a database built on years of experience. I remember (and it's only around 12 years ago) when every insurer asked "Is it fuel injected? We can't insure injected cars". They wouldn't insure my '83 GA61 as it was injected, not cause it was a perfomance car!
