What makes an indicator blink?

Postby Silent Knight » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:28 am

Right well in the Rolla I have a problem at the moment that sometimes the indicator will just stop blinking and stay permanently on when I try to indicate.

What makes them blink so I can replace the part and get them blinking again?

And yes... I have topped the blinker fluid and it's made no difference.

yeh make sure the indicator fluid is topped up, go for a basic two wire from repco or ur local sparky shouldnt b more than $9
may require some mods to fit ie jumper wires. flasher unit should be in ur fuse box under the dash just set the indicators on and stick ur head under there and ull hear the ticking.

Smoke makes it work. When you let the smoke out, it stops working

The blinker looks like a relay - under the dash somewhere... if it was working I would say "put the blinker on and listen for a clicking sound" but this might not work in your situation.
When you find it, pull it out and look to see if there is a hole to refill it with blinker fluid, make sure you use orange blinker fluid otherwise you brakelights or headlights might start flashing!
If there is no hole to fill it up you will need to buy a new one and plug it in.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Find it under the dash, take it out and someone in thr know will be able to match it up at Repco'z, as there are several different styles and a PITA to mix in match, easier to just replace it with something thats ment to be there.

Else feed the midget who keeps flicking the switch, and he'll stop being a slacker for afew months.

If it's the same as the one i replaced on my old ee90 a month or so back it's just up past the brake pedal slightly to the right of it and it's a 3 wire jobbie that you need.
From experience the corolla flasher units are smoke filled - i let the smoke out of mine

I believe you are quoting Lucas, the prince of darkness. Manufacturer of most electronics, including headlights, in older british cars.
