Is a 12.87 quarter mile not fast? 8O . Thats a fairly general assumption.

it really depends on your definition of fast doesnt it :D and theres alot more ways to measure that than a 1/4 mile time.

im saying wht i am on solid proof and wht i definatly know. what are you basing yours on? why dont you ring the cops and ask them.

i'm basing mine on fact for cars prior to the VS, going on what is written on the factory build plate with the 'special' options. the standard road car version of what the Police used, did not have the FE2 handling option as a base spec car nor do they have the trans modified/changed. special orders did, however.
might have to ask my mate at the local dealership to advise what the options are now on the Police cars.

the standard rubber on up to VS was 205/65/15, when fitted to the standard rim, does look quite wide.

Cop cars cant be that fast. One of my flatmates is a CB radio enthusiast, sits his scanner on the police coms channel and all you hear all friday and saturday night is them engaging in chases, then calling them off 10 seconds later because they lost the guy they were chasing..

define fast?? some cars are very quick to a point, others are slow out of the block but have a higher top speed, and other corner on rails.
there are many reasons why chases are abandoned.

Go buy your own scanner and listen, or listen closer. Most of them are called due to public safety. The police are scared to chase now, because the media attacks them so much everytime another fcukwit kills himself. If you start driving erratic, or its high speed/high traffic/wet, the chase will be pulled by the coms inspector very very fast.

do NOT have the skills and/or training to drive fast on public roads.
the police and others who need to do some pretty wicked training...

mate of mine was a driver for a delagate when CHOGM was in auckland.
he gave me a run down on it. i soo wanted to have a go!!

If the VE holdens that the Police use standard i wouldnt worry, The company i work for has leased holden commodores for donkeys years and gives one to every man and his dog. Ive had the chance to thrash two different 2007 SV6,s and they feel slower than the last executive, ( and exectuve aint even the good model) cant even do decent linelocks in the new ones. And i cannot recall myself or anyone else from work getting over 170 in the sv6?? has anyone else??

Idiot.

Just. Total. Idiot.

Yay for company cars ay...

Ive been in a sv6 over 180. And as so many people said above, its not the car, its the driver.... Take a average car, and a great driver, and it will beat a great car with a shit driver....

i find that hard to believe, unless they speed cut. the fastest i had my old VN was just over 160 with room to go..................in third.

so the new generation V6 are more powerful, but heaps slower???

Matt:

I'd say that the resaon the cops were gaining on his was that he was probably just a bro who knows that pedal on right + floor = Go!

As Revvy's says, he was probably quicker until the straight line ended, and thats where the cops would have caught up :)

you are the one that wanted to know what i was basing m info on. but, if they uprated the cars prior to the VS, why wouldn't they uprate the newer ones. whilst the base car might behave well enough for an executive or a sales rep, they probably need uprated for the thrashing the Police give them.

are you the technician at the Holden dealership, or the guy the sweeps the floors and makes cups of tea???

Heh. Knowing Giltrap Group's financial controller, he'd never allow any of the dealerships to hire someone just to sweep the floor's or make cups of tea.

from my understanding frontline patrol cars get:

updraded suspension (factory pack)
extra wiring
different speedo (finer calibraton)

and probably a few other things the police themselvs arrange.

you will not find 454 chev in a patrol car
you will not find a 500hp legacy patrol car
just some of the things iv heard before

remember cost is an issue with government departments.

btw.... i what ever happend to the S15 mufti cars they bought 10 or so years ago?

OK, so i got in touch with a technician at D+E Holden in Timaru.

VT onwards also got the FE2 suspension instead of FE1.
the transmission unit is the same as the base model, he can't confirm if they are re-valved / kitted in any way.

Sorry Lucas, get back to sweeping the floor or passing your MOT certificate.

what do you do for a living mate? just to put your mind at ease i am a technician.
are you aware that the police do not own their cars? they are all lease cars.

FE2 woopdi shit, its not a police only option.

also, if i had of known you were talking about police vehicles from 10 years ago i would have stayed out of it. but to my knowledge this chase was only a few days ago.... they definatly were not VS VT.
