4AGE fuel economy

Postby fuzzilogyc » Sun Jul 15, 2007 2:33 pm

Hey,

Just wondering what kind of fuel economy other people get around town in their 4AGE's. Mines mostly unmodified, only air filter and extractors really.

I'm getting around 200km out of $40 gas = 23 litres. In my old 4AGE (and that was worked and had more power), I was getting at least 10km/litre.
I don't really thrash it that much - most of the time it sits below 4500rpm - not as much as my old motor.
My first guess is the O2 sensor. The motor seems to run pretty well. Welcome any suggestions.

I've got a bigport ae82 fxgt and I get around 250-300 off $40 of 95 or 98. And its driven pretty hard a lot of the time...

All ive changed on it is the intake and advanced the timing a bit...

i get about 440k's out of 40 litres.

Thats driving from silverdale into town 5 days a week... probably about 100minutes of heavy traffic. Ive got a exhaust back from the factory headers, k&n panel filter and a unichip piggy back thing. Oh and a big heavy sub box in the boot - im sure that messes with my economy... i used to get 500k's on a sensible week

temp gauge warm up in the normal length of time? (e.g. is thermostat working), run error codes just to see if any issues?

my old 4age got betwen 10-14kml from memory depending how/where I drove.

yeah, just changed the thermo less than 1000km ago. It warms up in a 'normal' amount of time now. But fuel economy still crap.
please elaborate on "run error codes". cheers

Im lazy tonight.

you will have a small diadnostic box somewhere near the battery, then:

check the codes... earth t and e1 count the flashes etc

ee904age wrote:...

Short the two pins out and turn the key to on.

Check the number of flashes and match up with the link I gave you.

They will read as follows:
13 will be *...***...*...*** etc where * is a flash

If there is more than one code it goes
13 & 17 will be *...***.......*...*******.........*...***.........*...*******...

engine light on the dash flashes.

a careful specific search should tell you anything else you need to know.

This may/maynot help with the economy thing but its worth ruling out for sure.

I shorted together Te1 and E, and it gave me error codes 21 and 24.

I know that my O2 sensor is most likely shod....

Which one is the air intake temp sensor? Does it have a blue plug, or a black plug? I think its the black one, but just making sure.

air intake sensor should be the one that plugs into the stock airbox, but in most cars with a pod its usually zip tied up to something - it doesnt really matter, but make sure its plugged in.

My ae92 bigport gets around 500kms highway driving on a tank, or about 400 town driving - doesnt seem to matter how hard/easy i drive it, still gets the same mileage

yeah, im just wondering which one it is. cos there's 2 plugs that go into the stock airbox.

I used to get the same mileage on my old 4age.... didn't seem to matter how hard i drove...

I get better mileage when I take the Racecar to the track, around the track all day, then back than I do with my identical car around town.

Silvertop Race : 12km/L, Road: 8-9km/L

I think its a case of heavyfootedalwayslate'ism
