Where do you mount your fire extinguisher?

flying_wedge, you haven't got much choice in an MR2, the "transmission" tunnel is a fuel tank.
Mines located in front of the drivers seat too.

I can just see MR2 owners trying to attach an extinguisher to the tunnel. (in your best drill noise) zzzzzz...., whoops!

Yeah I'm mounting mine on the passenger side of the trans tunnel but close enough that I can still grab it in a hurry if I needed to.

That's where I'm planning to mount mine as well.
Since we are on the subject, where can I find steel mounts/brackets for the fire extinguishers from Supercheap? They only come with plastic...

Supercheap FTW at the moment...at $22ea INCLUDING a metal bracket ya cant go wrong....and ya get to punch your own date in to the card too

And for those who have had their extinguishers (dry powder) sitting in their cars for a long period of time without removing them...take em out and hit the bottom with a lump of wood to make sure everything isn't compacted in the bottom

FYI, I just went to my local supercheap (Wairau Park) and all I could find was a crappy aerosol kinda thing which had a plastic (and rather hopeless looking) bracket, for $25

They (wairau) only had 1 of the $22 ones in the weekend left. Had quite a few of the $30 ones still with metal brackets

Dam...Porirua had a huge stack of them when I called in, I grabbed two but am hoping to go back and get another two if they still have them.

We used dry powder in our landrover once, made a hell of a mess. And it went off in the trailer after that as well. I don't know if they wouldnt pay out as I can imagine you would be able to vacuum it up. I would go with Co2 though

I'm 99% sure you are not allowed to use CO2 for motorsports. The marshalls can use them but you can't have one in the car.

The powder ones corrode the electrical terminals and make loads of mess.
Think of it this way. Burnt out wreck versus replace wiring loom and clean engine bay.

I 'think' in general Halon ones are not used anymore due to environmental issues cfc's & all that. wont hurt your electrical system though...
I read from nz fire depo they are no longer checked or recharged and old ones sent away for safe disposal.
