I have my 88 Trueno insured for 3rd party with AMI since I was 18 and have paid no more than $170 p.a.

I guess they see the word Levin and BZR and think flag. The lady had no idea what a Trueno was with me, but im sure it would have been another story if it was a Levin.

hey dude, you think you're having a hard time, the insurance assessors went and saw my old man Volvo and valued it at...... $3000. Hahahaha, he's not happy at all, think he's been faxing them the hundred or so pages of reciepts he has for it.

have you tried doing it through your parents insurance? You as a nominated driver and parents as part-owners. That's how mine is.

Thats what my mum has been trying to do, but they will only allow nominated drivers as long as the nominees are over 25 years of age...
I'm still uncertain as to weather i have insurance or not, i will go in the branch next time I'm free, or when i don't have school...

Hey guys I'm having insurance issues.

I've been with State for over five years now and have had seven cars insured with them in total over the years. I also have contents insurance with them too.

I've been paying $180 per year each for 3rd party fire and theft for both my '93 Galant and '80 Eterna GSR Turbo with State. Now when I went to go insure my '94 Galant (which is identical to my '93 except one year newer and auto) they wanted $315 a year. I asked why it was so expensive compared to my other two cars they said their 3rd party fire and theft insurance is increasing while their full cover is decreasing. So that means once the policies are due for renewal for the '93 Galant and the Eterna I will be expected to pay some 75% more than I'm currently paying for the same cover for the same vehicles. I thought that was just insane and a stupid move for them.

So I called around AA and AMI and while both would insure my Galants for 3rd party at a similar price to what I'm currently paying, no one would insure my Eterna simply because it's turbo and I'm under 25.

I can't beleive State are just going to jack their price up like that, considering I've been a loyal customer with no claims before, about to take out a FOURTH policy with them!

I think I will move all my insurance over to AA but I would still need to find someone who will insure the Eterna for 3rd party fire and theft at a decent price.

Could anyone recommend anyone to contact?

Cheers,
Phil

It's been said a few times now and I'll say it again, dress respectable like and go in to branch and talk to someone face to face, The call centre people are the most useless bunch of tards out there.

I did go into the branch. I spoke to the lady I always speak to, she remembered me. She said there was nothing she could do to bring the quoted premium down. I told her sweet, I'm taking all my insurance elsewhere.

Went back today to State to have them explain the whole insurance papers.
They can't insure my car, and i 'will' have to take the car to NAC.
Guy told me, if i had insured my car before they updated the system i would've been sweet, but after the new systems change (or what ever) they've restricted a few certain cars.

Heres a list of "high risk vehicles":
http://www.security.org.nz/Vehicles_highRisk.php

Ah well, i tried, always hard to get insurance when your under 25.

Looks like its NAC with me, they quoted $1013, and 30 percent of the next year if i dont claim, thats $700, not too bad...

And thats the last update on my insurance woes.

Insurance

Postby RevolutionStarlet89 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 10:41 pm

Im with NAC, been with them ever since i brought my 92 Levin from when it was standard, cost me bout $800 a year, had mags, exhaust springs etc, NOTE the word HAD, going through a t intersection in the wet, road was slippery and the light went orange when i was quite close to the intersection so i carried on through as normal, until a lady in a landrover discovery turned right infront of me as she was facing towards me, my bonnet went under her xhaust causing im guessing from whati saw about $500 - $600 in damages, went the smart collisions and got told that at a rough guess it could cost up to $3000, what its insured for, made the stupid mistake of not upping the value when i slammed ma springs, mags, and exhaust on :( so if car is write off looking at losing about 2k worth of mods. will try and get her insurance to claim liability as she turned into an intersection without checking the way was clear before hand, what do you guys think of my chances???

stuck for ideas as what to do if car is written off, do i a) take the $2200 theyl give me for it or b) try and pay the difference for it to be totaly repaird or c) buy it back take off the mags, exhaust, springs and sell it to the wrecker???

Give me some ideas!!!! lol

Well yeah thats what i thourght aswell, as she hadn't made sure the way was clear before turning. There was no 1 around me to say that i was speeding apart from the witness who said i may have been going a wee bit fast but he was the only one, she thourgh also said i was speeding but then she said she couldnt see me, isnt that a bit contradicting?? i couldnt see her when i was comming up to the intersection either which indicated to me that she wouldnt have been able to either.

If it gets fixed up i may sell it, dont like the idea of a new car with a whole new front end on it. I may look at a supercharged one, or a celica?

Not being racist or anything but isnt it convient that when asians are having a problem eg crashed the car, that they can quite happly speak another launguage and leave me thinking 8O wtf is goin on?

Should have called the cops and got them to see what happened. That way you have them on your side too.

Had that happen with my EP71, going along a straight road with a Give Way on either side (mine was straight through) and some asian dudes who could barely speak english went straight through one of them and I smashed into the back wheel. Pretty obvious it was their fault and they seemed to understand that. Got a cop to come down and he talked to us individually. The bastards said I was speeding and that it wasn't their fault.

Gave the insurance company the cops name, number and report number and they sorted the rest basically.

Boy did I just find out the extent of states problems - apaprently ive been driving round without in surance for the last 4 weeks cause they went and cancelled my policy on me cause I hadnt made any payments. The funny thing is is that I had rung them up 3 times before to request a DD form so I could make the payments and sent all 3 back - and tehy still hadn't loaded it onto the system. So they re-did my whole policy and I asked them to look into why I was paying so much. She said she didnt know but would run it through again - well I got a nice suprise when she told me my new policy was now $512.00 down from just under $1100!!!! All the same details and all that sort of stuff. All because I complained that i was paying too much...

SCORE!!!!

Yeah it seems this new policy is upsetting a few things in the system, I bought a new Impreza WRX STI and a few weeks after them sending the policy out they sent me something saying the policy hadn't had payment and that it was void from the date of issue.
SO I asked them if I had been driving the number 2 most stolen car in the country - they guaranteed they would have insured me and that it was just a computer glitch though, but would have been interesting to say the least if it had been stolen
Turns out Somehow the existing A/P hadn't been transferred over properly in the system. 8O
An I even sent them a new A/P form which was loaded but for some reason wasn't working?!?

Has anyone tried Towes Insurance Brokers??

Really good, I got a decent quote for them the other day for a 2 litre turbocharged vehicle and came back at around $900, pretty decent I guess considering I'm 20.

Excess is around $1000 though :\

The JOYS of being young bro!!!
There is a few ways around it tho... register it in ur parents name, an then get them to make u a nominated driver.

Or try www.towes.co.nz see what they can do for u
(I had my AE101 levin 4age turbo, paint, kit, mags, interior everything "KERM3T" -- for an agreed value of like $18k an it was costing like f#*K all a month full insurance -- even had a claim on it an was paid out in full)

Just got insurance on my BMW lastnite threw state full insurance with glass cover for a 94 bmw lowered on 18's sounds an its a $500 a year... cheap azz.

But ive been declined from so so so so so so many insurance companys in the past (being under 25 sux)

Putting it under your parents name brings the price down, but policies from most leading insurances wont accept nominated drivers under 25 years of age.

Had an agreed value with them... Unsure how it worked but was on the policy... no point insuring a car for market value cause then they could just say oh its a dumb levin with paint an mods an its work X-amount of $...

Just like my BMW i made sure its insured for an agreed value, other wise in my opinion insurance is not worth it (if it got stolen then they will only pay market value for the car)

Had a few cars in my time so no a few steps that most wont

As for the puting it in ur parents name... it works, have had heaps of mates do it... just has a slighly higher premium than what ur parents will pay, $5 or so a month...
(to the guy who rekons it wont work... think about it a high % of parents wil teach there kids to drive in there own cars so do u think that they dont have insurance??? or most parents let there kids borrow there cars so how do they have insurance????) :?
