Replica, good luck ever even seeing a real one of the old model.

Just really took the mirror off the side,
buffed off 1/2 the paint on the bail
and bent the mounts on the rear bodywork which damaged the intakes and fuel reg etc etc.
Nothing that cant be fixed with some fibreglass, and some paint luckily.

A few of us doing a repair job had it all running again in time to do a run in the top 32 and then some Demo runs later in the day.

Wasn't a blue one from Timmaz was it? Dad made up an exhaust for a GT40 at Menzies when he worked there and said he then took the 40 for a short drive and to date it is the fastest thing he's driven.

I have like 3-4 hours of footage I now have to edit, and then throw on Youtube. Will post links when its evenually done.

Had an awesome weekend, just like last year, and can't believe I have to wait another year again. Already have made arrangements for entry :)

Got fourth in class, with a best time of 3 mins 4 seconds, which I was happy with since the gearbox in the Sentra was on its last legs. (changing from first to second needed double-clutching and some persuation, third to second worked around 60% of the time, second to first was never going to happen).

Next year should be easily under 3 minutes with a behaving gearbox and without a cat sitting in the middle of the course on my last run...

Anyway, will post up some links to some incar footage - me, Nate and Clara as well as Wayne's third run where he spins and barely misses a powerpole) and some outside camera stuff incl Hopper drifting the Mazcort. :)

No there is two in Timaru.
Dad's one was blue, but that wa sthe colour out of the fibreglass mould,
and is now black.
Dad did most of the exhaust system himself as it's quite a tricky setup,
and the mufflers were made by Dytech.

You can see the car in the video above, and that will be all shot post-damage too. Quite hard to see as from front, rear, and RHS, you will not be able to tell.

Well, I got through all of the Incar video editing last night, now I just have 2 hours of outside footage to do. Most of it I edit in High DV quality (to put on DVD) however I shrink the size of a couple for Youtube.

Ashburton Street Sprints 2007 - Nic's Run 3 in Sentra

The car drove really well all weekend, apart from the before mentioned gearbox - couldn't downshift from second to first, hence you will see some painfully slow launches out of the hairpins - at least 6+ seconds were lost here meaning we would have made it sub 3 minute otherwise. Bit of a shame. :( If you have good eyes look to the right of the corner at around 1:26 and you'll spot the cat. (Its easier on the DVD).. that explains my left / right swerve coming out of the corner.

Ashburton Street Sprints 2007 - Wayne's Run 3 in Corolla

Wayne put in a sub 3 minute time (which was his goal) in Run 2, This is his third run, and on lap 2 you'll find he had a close call with a powerpole...

Ashburton Street Sprints 2007 - Nate's Run 3 in Sentra

Nate drove my car for the event, this is his third run. See if you can spot the bit where he had to doubletake and pull the car away from the haybales :)

Ashburton Street Sprints 2007 - Clara's Run 4 in Holden Commodore Super 6

Clara's Elimination Run

When I have another spare few hours I'll have the outside stuff online as well. :)

Another random Youtube video from a spectator - shows the GT40 doing the hell burnout :)

Thread back from the dead..

Just I finally got around to posting a couple of pics from that weekend.

And here we go. There is always a crash, and unfortunatly for Allan, it was him. Came around the first corner, lost the tail, caught it, the front bit and sent him straight into a haybale. For those who didn't think a haybale could stop a car doing over 100km/h, there is the proof.

And finally.. well, Nate the Maori can't keep out of trouble.

At the social the night before, he made a bet that if Clara got into the Top 16, he would wear a 'Clara Bond #333 Racing singlet' that her and her girl mates wear. (very well I might add). I knew that wasn't going to happen, so we decided to change the rules (Nate had no say) to make it the Top 32. Shayne Adams (the Clerk of Course) then said if it happened, he had to wear it at the prizegiving.

What do you know.. Clara made spot number #32.

Burned Nate.

That was Allan Coker taking the photos, I was on the video camera (s) all day. The man still uses a camera that still uses film! Old School!

Final resurrection for this thread - promise :)

Viewing times on TV for the 2007 Street Sprints.

Worth watching just to see any footage of Hopper in the Mazcort, and the blindingly fast Godzilla. (and any off here that raced of course)

Sunday August 5th - Powerbuilt Motorsport Show, TV One 3pm to 6pm (in there somewhere)

And a longer version on Sky -

Tuesday August 14th - Sky Sport 1 - 23:35
Wednesday August 15th - Sky Sport 2 - 9.00am
Thursday August 16th - Sky Sport 2 - 22.30

Anyone else see the coverage on TVNZ?

Was just the top 8 onwards.

Will have to wait to see the extended version on sky.

I saw most of it. Did anything that wasn't a turbo 4wd get onto TV? I missed about the first ten minutes of coverage I think
