loud droning exaust (unwanted)

Postby Matty104 » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:49 pm

hi guys,
ive been through 5 different various mufflers and different setups with my exaust system and cant get it rite, i drive a wagon so it droans inside like a bi**h , it was ok to start with but now im sick of it, just want it to be quiet with this muffler that i have now,

i have (starting from the firewall) a home made resonator, and 2 high flow risonators strait behind that, then it has a bend or so then goes to a stainless pipe through to my muffler.

Resonators are all 2.5" and muffler is a 2.25" through to twin tips, system is pretty much all 2.5" apart from the muffler

so does anyone have any ideas of what i can do to shut it the f**k up, prefflebly cheaply as ive spent enough money and time on it,

oh b the way its on t 20v blactop engine in a carib wagon

IMO 2.5 is too big for a na 4age.
change the entire system to 2" or 2.1/4"

My sisters car 4age 20v had 2.5" and was droney and loud, we changed it to 2", with 2 resonators and a super turbo muffler and it was heaps better, plus it also went better,

Another thing that might help is sound deadening such as dynamat, expensive and heavy though

Could you have instead of resonators an actual muffler mid way down the exhaust?

My racecar is 2.5" with two straight through 19" cobys (perferated type not luvered) and the largest offset straight through muffler I could find to fit up the back, kinda loud with no sound deadening or interior but pretty good.

Id say its in the first resonator. Replace it with a luvered 19" coby and it'll be all sweet

may sound stupid, but does the tips of the rear muffler stick past the bumper? if they don't, then the sound resonates in the back bumper. i have this on my supra, quite bad at 2500-3krpm, which is open road cruising speed! just extend it so that the tips are past the back bumper, and problem sorted.

I have a 2zz that had the same sort of awefull drone, it is 2.5 front to back, and had 2 Coby 19" resonators, then a twin tip muffler at the end.

Have had it changed to have a straight through oval muffler between the last resonator and the end muffler, and it is now damn near silent until over 4k rpm, so round town/in the burbs it is awesome.

The guy at pitstop said to stop the rest of the noise, go back to a decent single tip muffler at the end.

Don't these cars come quiet from the factory? Just put a decent muffler back on it. :?

Yea im going to get a factory resonator put in maby replace the first one with it, or "try" fit it towards the back.

the fallen303 yea they do stick out past the end haha but i should have said that in the first post really,

where do any of you suggest i put the standard resonator/ muffler in the system? get rid of the home made one and move the others foward so i can put it as far back as possible? as i would think a factory one would do alot more to quieten it down over after market?

Im sure there would be a few of you who would (like me) want to hear the screaming of a blacktop rather that the droan of a exaust haha

problem solved today, got a full 2 1/4" system with to resonators and its dam near silent in the car and sounds quite nice outside, a little bit of a tinny sound when between 3 to 5 000 revs but its fine for the time being, and way more ballsy

$350 from the mufflershop in hamilton, with 2 resonators , a 25 inch coby and a new factory looking one, and kept my euro muffler on there, press bent but theres only a few small bends in there anyway so doesnt make any difference, goes a hell of a lot harder now to.the guy who i delt with actually knows quite a bit, where as the usual guy i talk to there knows f**k all , so if anyone goes theretalk to alan, not dan
