Manual conversion

Postby HT » Tue Jul 31, 2007 10:21 pm

i have searched the site and had a look but i cant seem to find a post about this...and im SURE there will be one :? must be me lol

basiclly im trying to find out the rough cost of a total auto-manual conversion for a ae101 Corolla ceres...(basicly a 4dr levin/trueno.) done at a garage or a gearbox company. would probaly be much cheaper and easier to buy a levin or trueno i know but theyre not a 4 door :|

car has silvertop 4AGE in it,

any knowledge or links to previously covered post on this subject would be appreciated,

cheers!

depends on how complete you want,

just want it to ba a manual, or want a manual dash without the AT lights etc fitted, centre console etc etc all swapped over, etc etc.

Paying for the whole thing at a garage would be quite dear.

Diddn't the ceres/marino's come out 4 door manual?

you dont really need a manual ECU and loom you can rewire the neutral (sp?) switch so that the ecu thinks the gearbox is always in neutral so the car will start no worries, makes things alot easier only downfall is you will probably get a fault code flashing up, or what happened on my old laurel one of the AT dash lights used to flash for a little while opnce the car was started

Doing it yourself is pritty easy,

Remove gearbox, torque convertor, flywheel,
Bolt on manual flywheel, clutch, pressureplate (ofcourse lineing it up)
Gearbox goes on.

Then find the looming which came off the selector, and find the inhibtor wires, bridge them where they end (if its as the fusebox or whatnot)

then re-wire your reverse lights up.

Ofcourse its harder done than said tho, and you also have the pedalbox, clutch cylinders to go in.

don't even have to worry about that, you don't need them for a wof, good to have though so others know what you're doing.

haha, i'd like to know where you are getting your WOFs from.

at least one reverse light is absolutely required, two if two are fitted!

errr no... AE82Fxgt is right.. if neither work, you dont need them to pass.

but if one lights up, they both must in order to pass

Yeah thats the funny thing, my starion has 2 different tail lights one is the late model original with no reverse light and the other is the older model with a reverse light, it doesn't go and never been stopped during a WOF for this....

Gotta remember all the pedals bits you'll need to fit also.

As for reversing lights, its all online. Distrb summed it up nicely
