Accident in Auckland

Postby astrae » Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:15 am

Anyone else see this on the news?

A cop car hit a lamp post that then hit a school kid. He has serious head injuries.

Two Ae111's in the accident too. Silver trueno and a blue levin/trueno.

I think its just an unfortunate accident. By what the story reads, the kid was crossing the pedestrian crossing, and the cop swerved to miss him.

I don't think the cop was at fault here. He was doing his duty and not stepping out of his boundries. If anyone should be at fault, its the motorist who failed to stop.

Its not like it was a predictable outcome.

The Police Complaints Authority had been notified and more details about the incident will be available once a full investigation had been completed.

It insinuates that someone has.

Yup, if a cop car is damaged etc or someone is hurt they are involded.

Cop car was rammed in palmy a week or so ago, as part of a pursuit, and the cop involded is being dealt with with the police complaints people. Nothing will come of it of course because they did nothing wrong, its just what happens.

And poor kid :(, and poor cop involded.

Fcuking idiots trying to run. Charge them with reckless driving caused injury at least. Manslauter would be better...

Let me just put this straight to you guys who seem to think police should not be blamed.

I grew up in the area and know that intersection very well. Have driven along richardson road countelss times.

The school has been there for over 25 years, and the ped crossing is virtually right outside it, and has also been there for as long as I can remember.

It is a very gentle brow of a hill on a practically straight road. For a cop to be going so fast that he lost control when he saw the ped x-ing means he would be doing 80kmph PLUS.

It's negligent in my opinion, and even MORE so as it was 3pm school finish time, and with all the adverts about speeding around schools lately.

I'm $&#$% disgusted.

the only facts i see is the description of the area. but im assuming that as iv never been there.

if you have an inside source that has more info than has been released by the media, please fill us in on these "facts"
things such as:
the direction the cars were travelling.
the speed they were travelling
the distance away from the crossing the cop car was when the kid stepped onto the road.

or are you just jumping on the anti cop band wagon?

to me it looks like a freak accident thats had a tragic result.

I agree that it seems negligent, how would the situation be if someone was speeding and did the same thing because they didn't slow down due to not being able to see over the brow of the hill?

they would be hung up and left to dry.

From the article, I get the impression there was certainly negligence involved in this accident, cop or NO cop.

again:

the direction the cars were travelling.
the speed they were travelling
the distance away from the crossing the cop car was when the kid stepped onto the road.

no one here KNOWS the facts, other than a cop car hit a pole which then hit a kid.

im sick to death of this country automaticly blaming the police etc for anything that goes wrong.

hell for all we know the kid ran out in front of the cops to stop them chasing the runner!

From one direction the crossing can be seen for 1km plus. The media description was essentially 'came over brow of hill, saw crossing, lost control trying to avoid etc' That would indicate coming from mt albert end of richardson rd, toward owairaka.

Mr Revhead wrote:the speed they were travelling

As above, I've driven this road literally hundreds if not thousands of times, on my way to and from school, gf's house etc. I'm ashamed to say I have travelled it at silly speeds too, and in much older shittier cars than cops drive. I know that in excess of 80kmph the car gets ever so slightly light over the brow of that hill, and at that speed you would have difficulty stopping for the crossing.

Mr Revhead wrote:the distance away from the crossing the cop car was when the kid stepped onto the road.

Of course I can't tell you that, but from the point of crossing the top of the rise (where the crossing becomes visible) to the crossing would be 100m or so. You see the intersection before the crossing if coming from mt albert end. If, as the media has said this was shortly after school ended, the crossing is patrolled and highly visible.

Yes this is an accident, but that particular school/spot is no more prone to accdents than any other on a main road.

Heh, owairaka is a primary school (assuming the kid was from that school).

If it was 3 pm the cops would've come over the brow to face a long line of cars picking up their kids long before seeing the crossing.
Like Revhead said, what exactly are the circumstances
