2e Running rough when cold??

Postby AE86fan » Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:48 pm

My XL corolla runs like crap when its cold. As soon as you give it some throttle it drops a cylinder or two, coughs and splutters and eventually goes.
I have changed HT leads and put new plugs in it but hasnt fixed it so far.
I have heard the carb in these things is a bit of a shocker could this be causing me the problem??
It has a new distributor cap, would not sure about the points.
When its warm it seems to run fine, just idles a bit high.

yup, those carbs are crap and not worth playing with, the much sort after downdraft carb is what u want  on mine we changed the fuel filter and it helped quite a bit but the carb is the problem
60% of the time it breaks every time

Thanks, I might put a new filter on it and see if that helps. Otherwise it might have to go to the local mechanics and see if he can make it any better.

The carb that is on it looks like a downdraft to me, it has an odd sliding throttle butterfly, is it the good one or not? Im not sure what the difference is.
