20V gearbox oil question

Postby blackmk3 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:33 am

hello all, im just wondering the car is a 1991 AE101 levin superstrut, with a silvertop in it and the gearbox is a C52 with electronic speedo sensor

The gearbox was fine no noises or crunches in any gear everything was smooth, now however ive put a new clutch in the car and now with driving you can feel the gears engage thru the shifter, and crunches when its cold. also with low rpm accelleration like 2000rpms in 2nd foot down to acceleration when engine is loading up there is a clatter clatter clatter noise that seems as if its coming from the gearbox

* car never did anything like this before the clutch job
* ive checked all shifter linkages there all fitted properly and tight
* gearbox oil was drained and changed with fresh oil
* filled the gearbox correctly thru the top till it came out the the middle fill hole

The oil i put in was from repco the Valovoiline duragear synthetic 75w-90

so im thinking that maybe the gearbox oil is not right and causing the problems?

what do you guys think? and what oil do you run?

hopefully is just as easy as the oil insead of finding a new g box :?

Thanks
Nick

Replace it with VMX and all your dreams will come true.

I tired syntrax (75-90) in my C56 pre-rebuild and suffered from what you mention above. Replaced that with VMX and life was sweet again.
I still suffer from the syncros not liking a stone cold morning post rebuild but what can ya do.

n.b I use syntrax racecars C56 with TRD LSD.

Forgot the reason why.

I was told by one Toyota Dealership that in the early 90's TNZ had issues with the gearboxes in the new cars, eventually they swapped them all over to use VMX

"VMX" has only one rating (think its 80w) but its not on the lable
supercheap/repco all have it
