Hmm, I liked Altezzas untill I drove one. It did nothing for me, it felt a bit detatched and lifeless even though it handled well enough and had enough (could do with more) power.

You're!

And sometimes the opinions of others are helpful. Thus the very value of forums.

I agree completely.

I was ready to buy one untill I drove one. It was the most disappointing drive power wise. It did handle well no doubt, but for me it was all wasted due to the lack of power.

A 2jz imo would screw up the well balanced setup, giving it good power but you loose all the handling due to the weight of the 2jz. Remember the 2jz altezza race car that was floating about last year, that thing was a big flop on the track. (again , my opinion)

I priced up putting a sr20det in one, which I believe is the ideal motor for it, all up with turbo would be similar or lighter than the beams, 200kw at the rears with $2000 of bolt ons; but conclusion was I'd be left with $20k of car that would be hard to sell.

I would still get an altezza over a gtt, but thats because the mrs would rather the altezza, and she would be the one who drives either car most of the time.

In a vaugley related topic, which could start a whole new arguement, people need to get over this RWD > anything else crap. I like RWD's, but I like Evo's just as much. One of the best cars I owned was a ae111!

I'm sick of reading forums where 90% of the comments about RWD are from dumb teenagers (whether actual or mentally) who think that because their ke30 is rwd it is better than anything fwd.

This thread is no different, I believe 90% of drivers wouldnt be able to feel the difference if an altezza was fwd or rwd. Its not like you would have it power sliding all over the place, the one I drove would only step out above 60k's if I feint'd into it, which you can do in most cars anyway.

If someone for example drove a altezza, and an acoord euro, they 'should' prefer the accord as I believe it is a superior car in everyway. Except for the fact that its fwd, and if you choose another car over RWD you must be gay.

You only need to look how many wankers drive a 50hp 70's car, because its RWD, and they love it because other wankers love that its RWD too.
I'm not saying that every owner of a ke** is a wanker, some people genuinely appreciate the style of them, good on you guys - horses for courses. But lets be honest, they only became mainstream popular when drifting took off.

I lost count how many times I bought a kp starlet and sold it days later for 5x times what I paid, to some young guy who was going to make the next street weapon. You can buy a ep82 cheaper than a kp61 now! Its crazy.

/end rant

Summary , Altezza over GTT, not because its RWD, because its a more rounded mid sized sedan, which I would rather over a snow mobile.

Bahaha, you're dreaming! All alloy block =! light engine. SR20 blocks are stupidly heavy for a 2l 4cyl, alloy block or not! 3SGE/3SGTE engine blocks are fairly light, a block without manifolds etc weighs only ~20kg more than a 4age.

Funny you say this.
Of all of the cars I've driven to date, a KP starlet was by FAR the most fun. Despite being the slowest, worst handling, with the worst brakes etc, it was just an absolute blast to drive. My MR2 which is at least 3x better in every category doesnt come close to being as much fun to drive. (except for on the track, where it really comes to life)

Thanks to my MR2 currently being off the road again, I'm putting around in an EP71 12 valve starlet. And it's a heap of fun too.... But not as much fun as the KP. In every day driving, it's hard to tell the difference when you've got that little power... But take it onto gravel or something, and theres' worlds of difference. RWD isnt about fast, it's about fun. :D

I drove an AE111 at trackday on thursday, and had a BLAST. Really awesome handling, really tail happy, heaps of 4wd slide action. But it's nowhere near as much fun as driving a car that you can balance with the throttle, aka a well setup front engined RWD car. Which is not to say that it will be quicker, just more satisfying and fun.

KP's More Fun

Postby Gator » Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:47 pm

The KP is so fun beacuse you control everything no power steering wich is the worst thing for fun to drive I prefer driving my KP to the Gtst I owned I think there the most fun car ever made.

If you don't agree proove it to me (I'll drive anything)

More popular ;)

It is nice other people like the car you have, but if you like it then you'd keep it either way.

Caldina/Altezza? Flip a coin

Standard Altezza looks nice, can be better with a little work. Caldina is boring factory, can look nice with a bit of work but they all seem to look the same after people have played with them (few exceptions of course)
