have a look in the boot, under where the rear speakers are, there are probably some screws holding the speaker covers on, take them out, remove the covers and then unscrew the speakers (probably from the top)

to remove the stereo take the plastic panel that surrounds the stereo off. make sure you've got all the screws out before you go tugging on it, often there are screws behind the ash tray so take that out too. don't use screwdrivers to try and lever stuff off, you will damage the plastic. there will more than likely be stuff that needs to be unplugged, switches etc.

once you have taken the panel off, it will be obvious how to take the head unit out. if you need wiring diagrams for the stereo harness, check here http://installdr.com/Harnesses/Nissan-Wiring.pdf.

please don't use the "twist and tape" technique, that's lazy and crap, and you could start a fire if your tape falls off.

i don't know where the screws are cos i don't have one, you should be able to tell where the panel starts and ends though so just look for screws around there. perhaps there will be some at the top of the panel, you might have to look up at it to see them (up by the fan/heater controls if they're at the top?) the rear speaker covers might just pop off, pull on the corner of one a bit, from that picture it doesn't look like its held in by screws. i doubt you would have to remove the tray, I haven't come across a car where I had to remove it yet.

if you can't find any other screws on the front panel you could start pulling it off from the bottom, gently, and when you get stuck look for screws inthat area

If they are like Skylines.. For taking out the headunit.
Undo the screw behind ashtray, then with a screw driver or something, pop the air-con vents out, and there is screws in there to undo, then it should all pop out in one unit.

But thats on a Skyline, could be diff

judging from that blurry photo, i'd say the speakers screwed directly onto the rear parcel shelf - those things sticking out look like 8mm bolts.

take the parcel shelf off first by removing the seats. the bottom bench seat usually clips in place, stick your fingers under it and work them loose, pull the whole thing out exposing the bolts that hold the rear part in place - remove that. the parcel tray is usually held in place with plastic clips - pop them off with a small flat screwdriver, take the whole tray out exposing the speaakers

in terms of headunit install. toyotas are by far the easiest type of vehicle as they all use the ISO-DIN mounting method (via brackets), nearly all have the removable trim surround plate which pop off exposing the mounting screws. Unit out, $10 clip on wiring harness (as toyotas have kept the same wiring since 1987), new unit bolts straight in

It's not a Toyota, as stated in the original post. Although it's a Nissan which follows much the same principle
